Full description
Rabaçal is a nature reserve on the island of Madeira that was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999. It is an area of intense natural beauty, brimming with waterfalls and unique flora and plant life, all of which you can experience on this wonderful guided walk.

The 25 Fountains Walk starts by heading down the biggest valley of Madeira towards the Rabaçal reserve. Along the way you will walk along two of the oldest Madeira levadas each boasting a remarkable evergreen landscape with beautiful waterfalls scattered throughout. The 25 fountains refer to the 25 natural springs you will discover on the walk. Each spring falls into a small crystal clear lake surrounded by dense vegetation. Once you arrive here you may never want to leave! In this paradise-like oasis you'll be immersed in beautiful surronds, listening to the murmuring sounds of the water and the quiet chanting of the birds.

For nature lovers this walk is an invitation into a unique and awe-inspiring slice of heaven. Rabaçal is a paradise of waterfalls, lakes and enchanting fountains and there is no better way to experience it than on a guided walk.

The day before we were informed about the pick-up time, which was also met very well. We stopped shortly before the starting point to buy drinks and food and to go to a toilet. The hike itself is breathtakingly beautiful, since we were there in November did not see so many blooming flowers. Who likes to take photos has many motifs during the hike, unfortunately there is rarely time for it during the hike. Good endurance is also an advantage.

A wonderful tour that is also feasible for unsportsmen. Although it is the most popular Levada hike in Madeira, we were no longer there in the main season, but it was still sometimes very crowded, e.g. on the way to the 25 springs where you are sometimes stuck in a traffic jam because there are no two people side by side on the small Levada trail and fit at the 25 springs themselves. Our guide Gloria and our driver were both absolutely great! Gloria was very caring, spoke good German, explained a lot and always looked after the group. There are also some not so easy passages, which are simply due to the bad way or. Stairs are more difficult, but everyone in our group, regardless of their age and fitness type, ultimately made it. The forests and the waterfall are beautiful, the 25 springs themselves, maybe just because of the masses, were not the big highlight for us.
