What people are saying about Fredensborg Palace
Our guide was well informed, amusing, and my daughter and I enjoyed the visit very much. British tourists are into Danish TV series and interesting remarks could be included in the audio guide. For example, North Sealand area featured in "The Killing" ("Forbrydelsen"), and I believe in many other Danish TV series. Furthermore, the British tourists would be interesting to hear about Anne of Denmark (the second daughter of King Frederick II of Denmark) who married King James I's . Their residence in London, from 1603, Somerset House, was named 'Denmark House' in her honour. The history of Somerset House (taxing system, etc.) is very similar to Fredensborg's. Check the website https://www.somersethouse.org.uk/history The only problem was that coffee break was not planned! If the tour has to be 7 hours instead of 6.5, but with coffee/tea break before entering Hamlet's castle, that has to be done.
Faboulous trip, great staff ( well prepared, so gentle, so lovely for all the day with everyone ), a perfect way to see much in a perfect comfort without stress. Beautiful discovering Elsinor and Kronborg Castle, looking the delightful coast of Danmark with her magnificent nature and sea, and the amazing typical danish little fisherman's houses... For Frederiksborg and His amazing Castle, the only Word I can say is : WOW!!! Incredible, wonderful place... a Royal jewel, really! Thanks to our great guide Kirsten: so good and kind in everything, thanks to her and to the very nice and well prepared bus driver I enjoy this day twice. Beautiful , I hotly recommend to do this if you spend some days in Copenaghen.
I loved touring these stunning castles and the scenic landscape along the way was great - the really nice houses, the shoreline, the windmill, etc. It was fun seeing the changing of the guards at Fredenberg Castle and there were hardly any spectators unlike Amalienborg Palace. You could actually get close to the guards so there was a much better view. On the negative side, I did not care for the guide, Teddy's sense of humor and at times I felt rushed like when he gave us 3 minutes to use the bathroom. You could not even get into the ladies room that quickly with the line.
The group was too large for the time allotted. That meant the guide kept constantly scalding the group and warning against staying behind. But good itinerary and locations to visit! The company was well organized. Driver had a small accident (hit tree and broke a window) but he was fine. Guide had a black humor and made nasty remarks about all nationalities. We found his jokes distasteful. Nonetheless, good trip which I would recommend again.
I would highly recommend this tour that takes you through charming areas and countryside to arrive at these fascinating and very interesting castles. Our guide was so good that I told him he should teach school because he made the history actually fun to hear. He was very easy to understand as well. We were offered the chance to buy sandwiches to eat on the bus and they were outstanding which was a surprise. If you like castles, this is a must.
