Full description
Known around the world as the true symbol of Florence, the mesmerizing Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, also referred to as the Duomo, has to be seen to be believed. On this tour, you will experience the Duomo itself, the impressive Opera del Duomo Museum, and the Baptistery of St. John. Discover the Duomo Complex' history as well as the mystery which surrounds its construction.

In order to fully understand and appreciate these fascinating structures, your tour will start with a visit to the Opera del Duomo Museum, which is dedicated to the history of the Cathedral and houses some of the original pieces that once stood in the Duomo. Here, you can see Donatello’s wooden Maddalena Penitente, the original Gates of Paradise by Ghiberti, and Michelangelo’s Pietà.

Next, at the Baptistery of St. John, your guide will explain the building’s unique past and the meaning behind the specific architectural design. In fact, the building was originally built as a Roman temple dedicated to Mars. Once inside, you will be blinded by the ornate golden mosaics which make up the ceiling.
