What people are saying about Fes
While it's a bit of a lengthy drive to get to Merzouga, it's absolutely worth it to be able to witness the Sahara dunes at both sunset/sunrise. Camels are also my new favourite way to travel! The campsite is basic but the dinner was hearty, I loved the traditional music and dancing and our Berbere guides couldn't have been more hospitable. My only criticism is that every stop was designed for us to buy something and the restaurants arranged for our lunch stops were expensive and really dirty and substandard. Our driver Mohamed and a tour guide at Ait Benhaddou became very rude and aggressive, actually yelling at us because no one wanted to do the "optional" tour - we all just wanted to wander the site by ourselves but the men were clearly angry that they would miss the commission. I wish it had been a little more relaxing but it did feel like we needed to be "switched on" 24/7.
We had a fantastic day. We learned so much and met some lovely people and guides. Our guide stopped anywhere we wanted for pictures etc. It is important for people booking to know that nothing is included. You must pay entry to all the sites, (which is small $7-10 each place) and we even had to pay one guide which kind of surprised us. So ask your main guide lots of questions to understand process. Don’t be shy! We particularly loved our guide in Voloubilis who shared a lot of history on Morocco in general. He was fantastic.
Our guides are a driver and his companion. The driver is excellent in driving and knows his stuff about Morocco. He even offered us a detour (without additional charges) to a local factory that produces olive oil. His companion is a multitalented multilingual professional. He can speak 7 languages and he is currently self learning Mandarin! He was the one described everything to us along the way. This tour is perfectly legit, enjoyable and we love to use the service again in the future!
This 2 day desert experience was incredible and the staff from our driver to the berber camps were amazing. They made us feel at home straight away. The food we were served was delicious and the staff at the camps made sure that we were well looked after and comfortable. I had a few requests that were tended to immediately and the staff went above and beyond to make this experience a memorable one.
Chefchaouen is a beautiful city and well worth the long drive from Fez to see it. Our driver was excellent, the guide in the town a bit too much.... made us feel quite uptight as he was quite highly strung. Staff very helpful and caring to one of the passengers who needed medical assistance. Overall a good experience
