Full description
Immerse yourself in the vast and untouched wilderness of Doubtful Sound, the second largest fiord in Fiordland National Park. Make your own way to Manapouri to embark on your adventure. You might like to consider staying overnight in beautiful Te Anau, Manapouri, or the surrounding areas to shorten the drive time.

With no direct road access, getting to Doubtful Sound is an adventure in itself! At Manapouri, board a ferry to cruise across Lake Manapouri then enjoy a short coach trip over Wilmot Pass. On reaching Deep Cove, set sail on a 2.5-hour small boat cruise to admire rugged peaks, lush rainforest and twisting, hidden inlets.

Admire the beauty and vastness of the remote fiord as you explore its waterways. Enjoy live commentary from your specialist nature guide and keep a lookout for bottlenose dolphins and fur seals at play or the rare Fiordland Crested Penguin. Lunch options are available for pre-order with complimentary tea and coffee on board.

The mood of the fiord is dominated by the weather – glorious and sparkling on a sunny day, tranquil and mysterious in the mist or dramatic and exciting in the wet as hundreds of waterfalls thunder into the sea. After your cruise, head back over Wilmot Pass by coach and across Lake Manapouri by ferry.

It is chilly on a sunny day across lake Manapouri so wear layers .. it’s a long day with lots of travelling.. be prepared to chill in the evening!! BUT the views are amazing and when they turn the engines off and your in silence it’s a precious moment.. take plenty of snacks with you and make sure your phone and camera are fully charged . Then just be prepared to overdose on the beauty of creation on a mind blowing scale . The commentary is interest and informative without being intrusive ..

Really a good trip, we took the early one and thus avoided the worst tourism. The boat was not filled up, and the guide stopped the boat at one point to show how quiet it was out there. It really was a great experience. In addition, we saw dolphins, which were just the icing on the ice.

The Bus driver and skipper of the boat were both friendly, funny and very informative. The day flowed seamlessly and God did a great job with the weather and landscaping. I would recommend this to all ages and abilities.
