Full description
Depart Porto and explore the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Scandola Nature Reserve to experience one of the last Mediterranean enclaves to provide shelter for endemic flora and birdlife such as ospreys and peregrine falcons. Created in 1975, the nature reserve is only accessible by sea and subject to strict protection.

Cruise through the reserve, rich with marine life and seabirds, on board a silent hybrid boat to respect the environment. Stop in the remote coastal village of Girolata and marvel at its stunning setting surrounded by the sea. You can even swim in the sea off the coast here. During the winter, the village becomes a secluded backwater with only about 15 residents. It was nearly abandoned at the end of the war, but tourism has restored its fortunes.

Add on the option to venture into the Calanche de Piana, and discover an outstanding landscape of pink granite rocks shaped over the centuries by changes in the temperature, strong winds and sea spray. Explore the geological diversity of the rocks and originality of their locations that give a particular aspect to the area.

  • 30-minute stop in the village of Girolata
  • Information leaflet available in French, English, and Italian

amazing places to visit

The cruise was very good, and the places we saw were really beautiful!!! Two cons: The explanations were given unfortunately only in French, and since we do not speak these language, we believe that we missed some important details about those amazing places we visited. We booked the whole 4.5 hours cruise, but no one told us that after the first part, we will go back to the harbor to pick up the people who booked only the second part. It is, in our opinion, a waist of time, which can be spent on the other sites.

Wonderful discovery

Great site, very enjoyable atmosphere on the boat, and a great guide who provides you info not only re the reserve, its purpose and time of creation but on the history of Corsica, info on Scandola’s biodiversity, scientific explorations, underwater landscape, the meaning of shapes of the rocks, etc. and - what is very important - does not forget to include a joke or two in his narrative! Awesome experience, a great sea trip in a hot summer day! ;-)

We were told from the advert we would receive a leaflet/booklet in English to accompany the french speaking only tour guide. It was only when we were on the boat that were informed that they don’t supply one!! Also we were advised it would take about 3 to 4 hours. It was more like 4.5 hours. Whilst I wouldn’t normally complain about getting a longer trip it did mean we were late leaving to get a ferry at Bastia, which we only just caught!
