What people are saying about Colosseum

Fun, informative tour. Perfect especially for 6-12 year olds.

We found our guide easily (standing outside the lower exit of the metro station holding a sign with our names). It was just us and one other family. It didn't take too long to get inside the Colosseum although there is a lot of security to go through and you can't bring things like glass bottles of water. Our guide gave a brief description of the history of the colosseum focusing on entertaining the kids she had a book with pictures showing us how it would have looked when first built. We then wandered around the main area of the colosseum and took pictures. We then went on to the Forum which was also interesting. Again the guide was great at describing the main features and history (illustrated with pictures) without losing the interest of the kids. She was very flexible in terms of answering questions and finding things of particular interest to the kids. She left us inside the forum to wander around on our own (there is a great view from the top of palatine hill).

Colosseum and Ancient Rome Family Tour for Kids Reviewed by Anonymous, 08/25/2019

Great tour but felt like we missed lots of the coliseum

The coliseum tour was just a talk of the coliseum from one position on the 1st floor. It was an amazingly well spoken one and tons of facts plus the view of the stadium was great from that position but I wish there’d been maybe 1-2 more maybe near the centre or lower levels. Tour of palatine hill and the forums was great! Really awesome info about the beginnings of Rome both mythology wise and historically correct wise. Was filled with lots of knowledge and the views were fantastic, felt like it could have gone down into the forums for a stop but otherwise it was great. Both guides were fantastically knowledgeable, enthusiastic and well spoken. Would recommend this tour if you’re in a bit of a rush but otherwise I’d try to find a more in depth tour if you want to spend the entire day (which you definitely could) in this archeological area.

Fantastic Tour of the Colosseum with Mattes

My boyfriend and I were in Rome in August 2019 and opted to do a tour of the Colosseum as we felt we would get more from having a tour guide. The Rome: Colosseum, Roman Forum, Palatine Hill Fast-Track Tour did not disappoint and our tour guide Mattes very knowledgable and gave a first class tour. He made frequents stops for participants to take pictures and also made sure we kept ourselves hydrated at the various public water fountains along the way. For anyone considering a tour of the Colosseum, this is the one to do.

Very enjoyable but ... more time for photos please.

We enjoyed this tour with Jan. However - one niggle. We didn’t realise that there was limited time on the arena floor. It would have been nice if he had pointed this out in advance. We were ushered out by Colloseum staff whilst he was still talking and missed the opportunity for some photos. Other than that it was enjoyable. The tour was cheaper than similarly advertised tours and yet, I can’t imagine how they would have been any better. Worth every euro.

Informative, enjoyable and a well organised tour.

It was wonderful to have the knowledge and passion of an archaeologist and University lecturer guide us around the Colosseum and Roman forum. They made us imagine what it was like centuries ago, the politics, living conditions and the way the law worked. The tour was so interesting, the time passed so quickly. I would recommend the late afternoon time slot as it was cooler and the crowds had dissipated somewhat.
