What people are saying about Cleopatra's Needle
We opted for the river cruise rather than a bus tour because it was a nice day and the river seemed more appealing than city streets. We had long waits and unfortunately, very large rowdy groups of students who pushed and jostled us, talked loudly throughout the commentary so we could not hear the guide. It was nice to be able to get on and off as we pleased and spend as much time as we cared to at each of the stops. I would recommend this activity, but try not to get onto a boat with large groups who are more interested in selfies and socializing than in the tour. Some of the captains opted for their own narrative rather than the recording which made it much more interested when we could hear it.
My sister and I decided to meet up in London and go for a boat trip on the Thames. I booked the tickets online and didn't realise they were a 'voucher' which you then exchange for a ticket at the ticket office at the pier. We naughtily jumped the very long queue to do this. We decided to go all the way to Greenwich and it was great - a young man called Ted gave us a fantastic, funny (if somewhat non-PC) commentary. On the return trip, I used the toilets which were not very nice - water and wet tissue paper all over the floor. I didn't know I could have booked cheaper tickets for pensioners and there wasn't time to 'hop-on, hop-off', so we paid over the odds.
The day couldn’t have been better just one tip. I bought my ticket on the net and presumed as it was a hop on hop off boat I could get on at the London Eye I was wrong we had to get on at Tower Pier because our Internet voucher had to be exchanged for a ticket and this facility was not available at the London Eye Fortunately for us because of the tide the boat was running late so we still managed to get away at 11:20
Excellent sightseecruise on a very spacious boat. First class live commentary by very experienced staff. Extremely informative on all the individual points of interest, which gave an excellent insight into the history of not only the Thames but the surrounding areas. Food and drink available on board at very affordable prices. An excellent way to cruise the Thames and one I would certainly recommend.
Ideal way to see the river and easy to take photos without obstructions. The four piers gave every opportunity to view the main London sites and the cruise boats were very regular and reliable. Our 12 year old grandson loved all of it. My only criticism is that, for young and old, the seats on upper deck were not particularly comfortable.
