Full description
Explore the Banks Peninsula on this private tour, an amazing outdoor playground for everybody visiting Christchurch. No more than a 30-minute ride from Christchurch city, you will walk the Crater Rim Track surrounding the caldera of the ancient volcano. This affords amazing views of the rugged Pacific coastline stretching across Pegasus Bay to the often snow covered Southern Alps as well as the picturesque Lyttelton harbor and wide expanses of the Pacific Ocean - see New Zealand at its very best.

You will be picked up from your accommodation by your private guide in an air conditioned SUV. Please make sure you provide your accommodation and contact details when you book so your guide can make contact the day before with any updates. On the 30-minute drive to Sumner or Lyttelton where your walk will commence, you will be entertained with the history of the settlement of Christchurch, and personal experiences from your guide. Hot drinks will be provided at a local café before your walk commences.

Walking sticks, day bags, a stainless steel drink bottle, and lunch boxes are all provided by your guide before setting off. There will be plenty of photo opportunities, and a chance to hear more history of the area during your walk. You will enjoy a gourmet picnic lunch at a picturesque location along the way, often stopping at a little bay which can only be reached by foot or by boat. Enjoy watching the local bird and marine life in the area while you enjoy your meal.

Things you may encounter along your walk include Scott’s Cabin, a quaint little hut with a fantastic history of voyage from England to Antarctica, and on to its resting place in New Zealand with plenty of stories between. There are also the World War II gun emplacements on route, which comforted Cantabrians in the early threatening years of the war, ensuring their city was not defenseless against a surprise attack. Your guide will have every base covered to ensure this day is a trip highlight.
