What people are saying about Castle of Sao Jorge
Our guide was fabulous! Unfortunately I did not get his name. He looked after us very well from safety briefing to the end of the tour. One of the people on the tour had an upset tummy and the guide made him feel comfortable to ask for breaks. It was a glorious day which also helps....and our guide let us enjoy the weather. Took us to all the best Miradouro - view points. He gave us great commentary but not too much or too little. I would not advertise it as a food tour but I was expecting that from other reviews. So for me it didn’t matter. We did have food right at the end and it was delicious. But more of a tour with food as opposed to a food tour. I would highly recommend it!!
We were a party of 6 on a day tour of Lisbon. Three of us had Segwayed before but three had not. The streets are steep, cobbled and narrow and this combined with navigating through busy traffic, throngs of tourists and trams made this very difficult for beginners; two of our party came off their segways and sustained bruises and grazes - their injuries could have been worse. A single guide at the front leading us up the streets meant that those at the rear were not guided as well as if there had been two guides. We all got through it and overall everyone enjoyed the experience but we would recommend flat and quieter routes for first timers.
Simao and Hugo were tremendous guides. Friendly, helpful, excellent English. Simao has a particuarly good understanding of the rich history of Lisbon and is happy to answer all questions. The segways were easy to ride even for beginners. Really enjoyable ride with a nice beer and tasty chorizo at the end. A MUST do particularly with Simao and Hugo.
My hats off to this tour company. I had a small accident with my Segway and the staff was very concerned and did everything right . I wasn't crazy about the food choices but that was alright- we went for the experience. This is a challenging tour trying to maneuver narrow cobblestone streets with pedestrians but that's also what made it fun.
The "tour" part was amazing - the guide was pretty open guy with great knowledge and speaking skills; and segway is pretty much the best way to navigate through old part of Lisbon. Still a 4/5 for me, since the "food" part was somewhat lacking.
