After lunch travel through the Wye Valley, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, combined with quaint villages and ancient woodland, the perfect setting for the majestic ruins of Tintern Abbey. Take a tour with ample free time to take photographs and explore the river banks. During the 18th century, the area was visited by famous poets, painters and writers seeking inspiration. Take a leisurely stroll to the famous Symonds Yat viewpoint, 144 metres above sea level. Below is the River Wye which twists and winds its way into a large horseshoe bend in a wooded gorge.

The final stop of the day is the border town of Chepstow, home to the oldest Norman Castle in Britain. Chance to take a short walk across a cast-iron bridge to England, followed by a tour at the castle. Depart late afternoon for the return journey to Cardiff.

A Fun and Enlightening Day

Despite some intermittently terrible weather, this was an excellent trip. John, our guide, was fantastic and imparted an amazing amount of knowledge about both Welsh and British history. The sites we toured were all interesting and one—Tintern Abbey—was truly memorable. Given that my wife and I only had two days to spend in this beautiful country, this trip was a great way to maximize our time.

Great tour

John was an amazing guide, we learned a lot from him and he was very attentive and kind. The seats in the mini coach were comfortable and we really enjoyed being part of a smaller tour group. There was enough time to buy souvenirs and go to the restroom at each stop. The weather was unfortunately not good that day but we still had a lot of fun and saw beautiful places.

An excellent tour day that was very enjoyable! John was absolutely wonderful and so incredibly knowledgeable. He had so many great things to say and teach while always keeping it fun. He is a very passionate historian who taught us a lot of fascinating things abt Wales. Tinturn Abbey in particular was breathtaking. It was a very complete day. Thanks again to John and for everyone who made the tour what it was!
