Full description
This fun and informative day tour takes you to the Brecon Beacons National Park and to Big Pit, the famous Welsh mine. See the dark depths of a real coalmine before moving on to wonderful views of the countryside from the dizzy heights of the Black Mountains.

You will start the day driving through the valleys of south Wales to the “Big Pit” National Mining Museum of Wales. Once the premier industry in the country, you will visit the famous coal mine and take its award-winning underground tour.

It is the descent into the depths of a real Welsh coal mine that draws people from all around the world to visit the region. Discover how the South Wales Valleys became the heart of the Industrial Revolution and why the town of Blaenavon was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Heading north you will enter the Brecon Beacons National Park for a tour of the breathtaking countryside. A landscape shaped by glaciers, it boasts rolling green hills, sandstone peaks, high mountain lakes and cascading waterfalls. Stop for walks at the National Park Visitors Center, situated in the heart of this inspiring breathing space.

You will pause at the town of Brecon, full of cozy streets lined with tiny shops and quaint boutiques. Peek into the museum or explore the busy indoor market where you will find lots of well-stocked antique and craft shops.

Grab some lunch at leisure. The Tower Cafe in St Mary's Church is a must for fine fresh food and a chat with the locals. Brecon Cathedral will not fail to impress either, with almost 1,000 years of history to its name, yet still emulating a community feel.

After lunch you can go for a walk high up on the hills, taking it all that fresh mountain air. If you are looking for a more challenging hike, your guide will take you up to an iron-age hill fort.

Then get back on the coach for the journey back to Cardiff. Enjoy the views as you leave the mountain behind and head back to one of the most exciting cities in Europe.
