Full description
Your 3-day adventure through South Africa begins with early-morning pickup from your accommodation in Cape Town CBD or Stellenbosch town center to begin the roughly 4-hour drive to the Gondwana Game Reserve. Wind along the spectacular Clarence Drive and marvel at the dramatic twists where the expanse of False Bay meets the mountain slopes. Stop en route to visit the colony of endangered African penguins at Stony Point.

More coastal beauty awaits as you continue to Hermanus, known for its unparalleled land-based whale watching. Set off on a guided walk amongst the indigenous fynbos towards vantage points for the opportunity to see whales from June to November. The quaint streets of Hermanus are also the ideal lunch stop.

Afterwards, you’ll head towards your 5-star safari suite at Gondwana. Set at the foot of the towering Outeniqua and Swartberg mountains along the esteemed Garden Route, this 27,000-hectare private reserve offers prime Big 5 animal viewing in a stunning malaria-free setting. After dining under the starry sky, withdraw to your hideaway for the evening in a luxury, Khoi-San-inspired rondavel.

Your 2nd day on the game reserve is all about your wild surrounding. After breakfast, you’ll go on your first game drive of the day, your expert guide heading through all the spots where you’ll be most likely to see some Big 5 animals. Gaze at majestic lions, elephants, rhinos, and Cape buffalo, alongside hearts of zebra, 15 different species of antelope, and perhaps the elusive cheetah. With the rest of the day free, relax at the infinity pool, book a spa treatment, or wander the spectacular grounds.

Come evening, you’ll head out on another 4x4 safari for the possibility to tick even more animals off the list. Then, head out under the night sky for a South-African-style braai barbecue. After another night in your luxury tent, you’ll head back to Cape Town the next day, but not before stopping for a wine tasting at Jakkalsvlei Private Cellar on the way.
