Full description
This full day tour of the mighty Danube is ideal for people who want to combine history with nature and would like to enjoy some of the most beautiful countryside in Hungary. You will see historic monuments and art memorials while your guide provides a lively narrative of Hungarian life.

You will visit the 750-year-old Royal Residence at Visegrád where you will learn about life in the Middle Ages while enjoying spectacular views of the Danube Valley.

At Esztergom, the northern gate of Budapest, you will pause at the largest cathedral in the country and see the burial sites of famous cardinals as you gaze across the water towards Slovakia. Cross the river and border into Slovakia to see the stunning view from the opposite side.

You will stop at an artists' village in Szentendre, a baroque city located where the Danube River meets the Pilis Mountains. Wander the narrow streets to soak up the magical atmosphere and catch panoramic vistas of the river.

You will have time to visit some of the museums, such as the world-famous Margit Kovács Ceramic Museum or the Confectionery Museum, where the buildings and people are made of marzipan.

Browse the shops of the village if you prefer, before the return journey to Budapest. Travel during the months of May through September and this will be on a magical boat cruise, a fitting way to arrive back in the city center. The return trip from the tour's final stop Szentendre to Budapest is on a Danube boat from Tuesday to Sunday between the beginning of May and end of September. In July and August the boat also circulates on Mondays.

Klara was an excellent tour guide! She was so helpful with answering all of our questions and really went out her way to bring us a special and unique experience outside of the city. It was hard to pick a favorite on the tour, though we were pleasantly surprised to check another country off of our list when we made a short stop in Slovakia. The views of the Danube from the Basilica and the restaurant in Visegrad were absolutely stunning, and shopping in Szentendre was quaint and fun.

A little of many things to learn about Hungary and its people. I liked the visit to the first Hungarian capital. May be I would like to visit the castle in Vishegrad, but meanwhile we had enough time for wonderful lunch with exchanging impressions with the others of the group.

It was a good day trip to see outside the main city. Not something special but nice. The guide was a very sweet lady who knows a lot about history and willing to give you all information in depth. The lunch was just ok. The Szentendre a very beautiful-must see village but way too touristic.
