Full description
Save time and visit 2 important sites in 1 day with this hand day trip from Brighton. Discover Leeds Castle, famously described by Lord Conway as “the loveliest castle in the world,” then learn more about English history and culture in Canterbury. Enjoy the variety of some time spent on a guided tour as well as free time to explore or go shopping.

After making your way to the meeting point in Brighton, travel to Leeds Castle, originally the site of a manor house of the royal Saxon family with almost 1000 years of history. The castle was a Norman stronghold and later became a royal palace that was the home of kings and queens of England for 300 years. Admire a castle set in the shadow of the North Downs and on two islands in the river Len, encircled by a wide moat.

Next, head to Canterbury, a small history that packs a huge punch not just for the visitor, but in the history of Britain. It was here that St. Augustine brought Christianity to these islands and built the first cathedral in 602 AD, while the battles between the church and the monarchy that have been fought in the city have shaped the structure of how England is ruled and governed.

Take a guided walk around Canterbury and find out more about a city first built by the Romans. The city walls follow the original Roman walls, which had seven gates in and out of the city. Of course, see Canterbury Cathedral, the mother church of the Anglican faith started in 1077. After your guided walk, have some free time to continue exploring before returning to Brighton.
