Fabulous and great tour.... and a surprise!

The tour was well organized on the steps across the street from the entrance. We bought an early ticket so there was no line to skip on this one. Our guide took us through a portion of the Vatican Museums and explained some things on our way to the Sistine Chapel. Buying the early morning ticket was important bc there are less people in the room with you while viewing the art. I cannot emphasize how key this is. We were able to sit and just look at every detail. Fabulous. After we left there we went through the Vatican Museums where the Raphael rooms were awe-inspiring. Seeing The School of Athens in person was fantastic! Now, what I didn't know was that this ticket also gets you to skip the line to St. Peters as you access directly from the Chapel. This was GREAT as that line was very long. However, people acted like cattle and shoved you to get out of the Chapel once the door opened to go to St. Peters. It was chaos and like a mob where you had no control to stop.

the contemporary art is overlooked at the Vatican Museum

I loved my visit to the Vatican museum. I thought it as going to be all about the Renaissance, and it was, but it was much more. The teasing way they presented contemporary art on the last leg of the trek through history and archaeology to the Sistine Chapel was a surprise. The signs kept saying Capella Sistina but there was hall after hall of 20th and 21st-century art that was surprising and beautiful. There was art from many of the greats and it was inspiring to see them take on traditional religious subjects in new and exciting ways. Of course, when you enter the Sistine everything else in your life seems small and insignificant, including the art you've just been looking at for half an hour or more. But when I looked back I was impressed because this is the art I can and do myself.

Lovely, family atmosphere and quiet, nice guidance, thank you!

Beautiful, you are not in the river crowd that you can taste right after the end of the 1st entry mission. It is interesting to try both, but normal entry is crazy, it´s impossible to escape... I regretted the little children and lilipines because you do not see from the waist up, just the ceiling... The Sistine Chapel is beautiful and also the Athens School by Rafael. We were surprised that there is a possibility of refreshment inside the museums, which is even cheaper than the restaurant behind the Vatican walls. Toilets and everything you need to visit is provided. The Vatican post office inside the museum is also amazing. It was very nice to get up very early and see the entrance to the Vatican Museums without a crowd of tourists. Thanks!

Loved it! We really skipped the entire line and crowds and went in

This was a wonderful option with kids. This allows you to just skip the line, go right in and and see what you want-no tour guide. This was so important in the summer heat. With young kids, we opted to bypass a lot of the museum (the first half) and go into the Sistine Chapel... in order to get into the Sistine Chapel during the busy summer months, you still have to see a good portion of the museum anyway as you work your way on the path to the Sistine chapel. With this ticket, you aren’t with a tour so you don’t have to wait in a group... you can go at your pace. After the Sistine Chapel you can also go into St Peters Basilica-Free and open to just walk in before leaving Vatican City. Enjoy!

It was difficult to find how to use my ticket.

It was difficult to figure out what to do when I got to where the lines form. Outside staff person did not now either. Finally someone pointed that I should go n. Again, there were groups and people everywhere. Finally I asked a tour guide who asked at the ticket office, and she pointed me to a ticket booth. I was told just to go in after having my mobile ticket checked. I paid for an audio guide, but after a few stops, I used it only occasionally. It was so crowded! Often I just had to move with the flow of people and tour groups. All in all, it turned out fine. The museum is gorgeous. But realizing how much the church, no, the pope, owns is disturbing.
