What people are saying about Borghese Gallery
After being herded through several museums in Rome, our Borghese visit was a special time. Having a limited number of people in the gallery at one time meant it was easy to hear our guide, you could ask questions, you could actually see the art close up!!! Our guide was both interesting and highly knowledgeable. The walk through the gardens before the gallery opened was a memorable way to start the day. Borghese was pretty low on our list of things to see in Rome, but it turned out to be a bright spot during our time there.
For this tour the partner tour company we were given was Love Rome. The specific guide was Frederico who was excellent and told the story of the Borgehese family and also each piece of art. With only two hours there was enough time to discuss each masterpiece. With our guide I could have spent another hour listening to stories and background of each masterpiece in the gallery.
We are American expats who live in central Italy but we had never visited the Gallery until now. Too bad for us. We've seen a lot of beautiful things in Italy, but the Villa di Borghese was a huge surprise. If you're planning on a visit, I highly recommend taking a guided tour (about 2 hours) and well worth the cost. We can't wait to go back.
Well organised entry. Slots limited to 2 hours, ensures the venue never gets overcrowded. Not a tour, but audio available and some (well worn) laminated sheets also available for some items. Fantastic exhibits, Just felt a bit lost sometimes on what we were looking at! Good cafe and bookshop.
This was my second visit to the Borghese Gallery and my wife's first. We enjoyed it and I learned some new things about some of the Berninis, and about the famous Raphael painting. My only wish is that we had gotten more time to linger on some of the Bernini sculptures!
