Full description
As the most renowned Tibetan Buddhist temple outside Tibet, the Lama Temple was converted to a lamasery in 1744 after serving as the former residence of Emperor Yong Zheng. Your tour guide will lead you to explore the Tibetan architecture, plus the Chinese sacrificial and blessing activities that have existed in this temple for hundreds of years.

Lama Temple is a glittering attraction in Beijing’s Buddhist firmament, where riveting roofs, fabulous frescoes, magnificent decorative arches, tapestries, eye-popping carpentry, Tibetan prayer wheels, tantric statues, and a superb pair of Chinese lions mingle with dense clouds of incense.

A short walk from Yonghegong Lama Temple Subway station in an area of the hutong, you will find your way to this Buddhist monastery. The large grounds are walled off from the surroundings. Inside the walls are numerous halls, courtyards, pavilions, gates, towers, and yards each having special significance and meaning. The expert tour guide will introduce you the three Guinness World Record items in the temple: the largest wooden Buddha; the bronze Buddhas of past, present, and future; and the 500-Arhat-Hill.
