Located on the Mediterranean coastline between the mouths of two rivers, Barcelona is well placed for shore excursions. Here are five of the best ways to take a break from the bustle of city-life.
The Costa Brava is littered with Greek and Roman ruins, but if seeing them is a priority then set sail to Empúries. The town was abandoned long ago for being too easy to invade!
Only accessible by boat, the spectacular cliffs of Sierra de Montgrí are among Costa Brava's most well-preserved natural heritage sites.
Head to the Medes Archipelago marine reserve to see the old lighthouse and fort ruins among its dramatic scenery. Oh, and you'll probably spot some colorful sealife too!
Why not see Barcelona's skyline in all its glory? Simply join a boat tour from the harbor to see the coastal landmarks of the city against the backdrop of its famous hills.
If it's romance you're after, then we'd recommend booking a classic yacht to take you and that special someone out in the early evening to watch the sun set over the city.
Remember that sailing in the Mediterranean means you'll be exposed to the elements, so bring plenty of sunscreen as well as a hat and umbrella. Check if your Barcelona tour boat operator is providing food and beverages on your cruise. Even if they are, it's best to bring extra bottled water and snacks just in case.

It's a pretty chill boat ride but the Jazz music is sporadic (just one saxaphonist and stuff playing from speakers). As long as you have the right expectations you should enjoy it. They pretty much just take you out along the coast and you can get some nice pictures though it can get a bit bumpy on the water further out. Just make sure to get there *on time* so you can get a spot on the nets because otherwise it's probably a bit disappointing. There's also a bar on the boat (reasonable prices), but I saw some folks bringing some of their own drinks and they did not seem to care. PS there were no life jackets or anything offered if that concerns you.
Our guide was very helpful, he managed to get my bike changed for me while we were on the boat trip as the one I had was a little bit too big for me. He was very knowledgeable about the different places we went to and helped us put our bikes on the cablecar. He stopped regular so everyone could stay together there was no pressure to go fast and the bikes were so easy to ride even up hill.
As soon as we got a small distance from the port, Eduado gave me the steering wheel and let me take it out to sea and back. He showed different techniques and asked us questions we all found it relaxing and calm. The most important thing was that we all had laughs and wide smiles on our faces thank you Eduado from captain Thomas /Tom
4 fine wines in lovely sunny surroundings in the vineyard's courtyard. Wine production tour was short, sweet and to the point, followed by tomato bread and selection of wines. Herman the boat driver was super cool and stopped to let us jump off and swim for a bit before we reached the vineyard.
The live jazz is a saxophonist playing along to a backing track, he plays whilst docked in harbour to get people on board then packs away till half hour or so into the voyage, worth it over all though. Just don't expect a live jazz band.
