Our insider tips

Local lingo

Barcelona's official language is Catalan, native to the Catalonia region. Although most people will understand Spanish, you'll get further if you learn a few words of Catalan!

Hot, hot, hot

Owing to its Mediterranean location, Barcelona gets pretty warm, especially in the summer! Make sure you sunscreen up and stay in the shade around midday.

Stay safe

Barcelona is generally a safe city, but common sense should still be put into practice. Keep valuables tucked safe into your bag - not pockets - and make sure your belongings are always within your sight.

Mix it up

Barcelona city sightseeing tickets are available - if you're keen on one attraction, it's best to combine it with other things to save entry money and get more from your visit.

Good to know

  • When should I visit?

  • Will I need a guide?
You won't need a guide at the aquarium, but there are several Barcelona tours that come with free Aquarium entry. Plan ahead with your itinerary, and you could save some money.
  • How to get there
Take the Green Line L3 to Drassanes and it's just a short walk to the aquarium.
  • Additional information
Plan to spend at least 2 hours at the aquarium to make sure you get to see everything it has to offer!

Super value and my daughter loved it! Lots to see!!

My daughter and I went for a day out to the aquarium and we were thrilled to walk round the aquariums and see the local fish and octopus but also the most beautiful specimens of sharks and Adeline is a real enthusiast so she was showing me all the different types. There is a very impressive walk through a large aquarium full of Sea rays, sharks etc , you name it it was there! The restaurant also sells very tasty food and there is a Spanish section where we had the tastiest paella . The aquarium shop is brilliant almost too good as I spent a fortune on T-shirts soft toys knickknacks and lots of presents for the family so all in all a great day out.

Amazing!! Absolutely made our short trip a maximum experience!!

We were able to get our voucher printed at the Sant train station Information desk where they also then gave us our passports and got us on our way. We didn’t see that as a possibility in the information we were emailed, so it felt like a lucky find. Made things very easy. We only were able to utilize two days, as that was the duration of our stay (actually, just 1-1/2 days). But, even at that, it more than easily paid for itself. We saw several museums (Picasso, Dissemy, Míro, etc.) and sights (Parc Guell, Sagrada Família, etc.) and were able to traverse the entire city quickly and easily via the included bus and metro.

We could've not got our ticket easier and faster

Got online on my phone, a few hours before we wanted to take the kids to the aquarium. Booked the tickets (no extra fee) and on our arrival just pulled them out on my phone (no printing required) to show and we were in. It was definitely a good job we ordered the etickets beforehand as the line was hugely long when we got there, and believe me, I could've not stood waiting in the line for ages while my 7 yrs old nephew would've kept asking me "when are we getting in!?" every 2 minutes!

Worth a visit, well set up, but can be crowded

Definitely book in advance and skip the queue. Once in there is series of fish tanks with a great array of different fish. It was crowded when we visited making it difficult to see and you need to jostle a bit. The main tank is great with a clever conveyor belt to stand on so everyone gets a fair turn viewing. Need just about one to one and half hours. Skip the cafeteria nothing special there. Gift shop is just throw away toys (shame).

The travel card was good and recommended

The pass I think depends on how long you will be there - I am not convinced that was value for money as quite a lot of the activities were not free - you only received a discount - and the ones that were free were relatively inexpensive and you could purchase easily at the time with no great expense. The travel card was good and made life easy for getting around the city
