Full description
Head away from the regular tourist itinerary and get off the beaten track on this 2-hour cycling tour through the black lava stones of Mount Batur. Ride for 11 kilometers (almost 7 miles) along a track surrounded by fantastic views of both the ocean and mountains. Experience the altogether different thrill of cycling around this sacred volcano's rim, whether you've already hiked up it or not.

Following pickup from your accommodation, enjoy breakfast at a restaurant before the transfer to Bungklambu on the west of the largest lake in Bali, Lake Batur. Pass by the recent volcanic area on the way then hop on to your mountain bike to begin your cycling tour. Ride through rocky black lava left over from past eruptions on the most challenging track that Mount Batur can offer.

Follow your local guide through Batur UNESCO Global Geopark, unique for being a “caldera within a caldera”. The two craters present a complete volcanic landscape with walls, cones, geothermal phenomena, a lake, lava flows, and more. Stop at one of the hot springs that fall under this unique terrain to soothe your muscles after the adventure.

Next, make your way to Toya Bungkah Village and enjoy the beauty and fresh air of the mountain and the lake. Conclude this journey at a natural hot spring where you can just relax and admire the clear blue water of the spring.

I had a great time. My driver Puti picked me up and was great. He told me about local culture and what life was like farming in Bali. I met my Guide Wayan (who is another great knowleagable guy) who gave me my bike, water and helmet and off we went. He took me off into the amazing lava landscape.. absolutely beautiful. Unfortunately the mountain bike route had been shortened due to people complaining that it was too difficult. Maybe give a choice when booking? Wayan agreed to take me a little further which was greatly appreciated. We then rode on to an stunning temple in the lake and then to the hotsprings where I left Wayan. The springs were a little more touristy then I was expecting. But the dip to refresh was very welcome. From there, Puti took me on to the fantastic Amora Bali Restaurant which is sat on the lip of the volcano crater with magnificent views across to Mount Batur and beyond. The food was amazing. After eating my fill at the buffet lunch we headed home.

The road is not for inexperienced riders and harsh + bumpy. If I knew it would be a difficult track I would rather take a walking tour through the mount Batur. It was still a very pleasant day and the guide was very nice, took me through the farmers village in lava area where we got to taste fresh tomatoes straight from the gardens (super tasty!).

Not suited to anyone with a low level of fitness. The bikes could do with some maintenance, chain slipping one of the people on our tour lost his front wheel and pedal, fortunately without injury.
