What people are saying about Avignon
Not my first wine tour - but the first time the tour guide was a certified enologist and it was absolutely fantastic! We visited two wineries (one in Côtes du Rhône and the other one in Châteauneuf-du-Pape), plus had a couple of stops in the vineyards along the way - and our focus was on how wine production works in this region, from how to grow and prune the vines and distinguish between Grenache and Syrah by looking at the leaves to how to set up and manage a whole winery. Obviously had great wine tasting sessions as well - besides the two wineries we also had a stop at a wine shop in Gigondas where we tasted more wine. Huge thanks to Julien for this trip - learned a lot and enjoyed it immensely.
On a hot 36 deg C day we toured provence in airconditioned minivan. The locations were unique and have good vistas of the countryside. Our guide was restricted to his vehicle due to drop off arrangements so we received suggestions on places to visit and we explored the locations from there. Would have been nice to tweak the times in the different locations due to heat. Two locations have streams/rivers and would have been nice to have more time there and less in the hotter locations. Pont du Gare was probably my favourite - impressive architecture, river, nice breezes, and museum which I only had time to race through.
Heading to the main tourist attractions of Marseille which is far from the city and completed on one day was really very fruitful trip. My trip was a lucky one as there was no traffic slow down on the road and I finished with enough time for each tourist attraction:) Sebastian is tour guide for the day who is very helpfully and very kind to wait for me when I am late for the tour and I recommend him to be the best tour guide:)
We were so lucky to be taken on a half day wine tour with Emmanuel. Not only was he friendly and welcoming, he was also incredibly knowledgeable and engaging. This was my first wine tour and I learnt so much about wine, as well as the area of Provence and Occitane. My sister and I joined a couple from the USA and all had such a wonderful time. Thank you Emmanuel for making our visit such a memorable one!
David did a great job of providing interesting commentary about the history of the various areas we saw during the day. It was an aggressive schedule, but necessary to cover the diverse areas we saw. We could have spent much more time at each site but as a highlights/overview tour we were able to spend just enough to appreciate the special nature of each site.
