Full description
The tour begins with a breathtaking drive along the scenic coastal road. During this relaxing ride you’ll enjoy splendid views of the Saronic Gulf while passing through some of Athen's most beautiful suburbs; Glyfada, Vouliagmeni, and Varkiza.

Arrive at Cape Sounion, a historic and beautiful area of Greece. The steep cliffs offer a breathtaking, panoramic view, and on a clear day you can look out to some of Greece's beautiful isles.

In addition to the views, look forward to visiting the 5th-century B.C. Temple of Poseidon. God of the Sea, Poseidon was second only to Zeus in Greek mythology. Made of white marble, the columns still stand today as a reminder of the Athenian Empire.

The trip will conclude with a relaxing drive back to Athens after having experienced the sights and architecture of ancient Greece.

The guide Dimitrios made this half day tour. The commentary about the suburbs of Athens as we left the city was fascinating. Then as we drove along the coast it turned to the Greek and Roman cultures, and the significance of Cape Sounion to the Athenians. Once at the Temple IOC Poseidon, and the base of the Temple if Athena, Dimitrios continued with the historical context of the area, and the impact firstly if the Athenian in the area, and its political, military and religious significance; but the impact of the Roman occupation. A tour by a passionate local is always a great way to connect with contemporary and ancient societies.

We went on the 2 p.m. tour on November 18. Good hotel pick up service. Very good bus. Very good driver. Excellent tour guide. Stunning views all along the coastal route. Just over 1 hour to get to the Temple, just over 1 hour AT, and as much to get back to Athens. The prolonged sunset we watched on our way back was fan-tas-tic! Drop offs where each of us wanted. Having said all this, as one who loves photography, I wish we had half an hour more at the site!

site is great but keep in mind it's really just the temple and stunning view over sea. guide knowledgeable and easy to understand. pick up at 15:00 from hotel, arrive at 16:15, leave 17:30. drive back longer due to traffic. personally could have done with 30 more minutes at site.
