The good: Once the bus left, the tour was well organized. The tour guide was great, informative and helpful. You see the temple of Apollo and Delphi theatre mainly with some other minor stops. The drive there is also nice. The bad: There isn't enough time to see the site if you decide to go to the museum with the group. We chose to walk around further and take more pictures and only visited the museum for 30 minutes without the tour guide. The ugly: The tour operator failed to email or contact us about the pick up location! We had to call in to the office and glad we did because the pick up was not from our hotel but a short walk. This info should be emailed the day before (as is the case for most other tours I've booked thru this site). And the food - there is an unnecessary coffee stop at a super crowded cafe where you don't have time to buy anything anyway. There are no options for lunch and you're forced to eat at a place they take you and the food there is bad.
Great guide and very in depth explanation about the history of Delphi. I didn't realise how long the drive to Delphi was which meant that I was expecting a 10 hour tour but was only 4 hours of 'actual tour time'. We chose the lunch option to eat and was looking forwards to trying some local food. Was severely disappointed! Very basic food and was not worth the money though people who didn't opt for the choice ended up eating at the same place too as it's quite far from the rest of the town and lunch was only scheduled for 45 mins.. Also, don't forget that Greeks have lunch late!!! We missed breakfast as pick up was early and so didn't eat all day until 2/3pm! And even though we were really hungry, we did not enjoy the food at all!
My son and I had a great trip to Delphi. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and fueled our journey with ancient stories of Delphi. The site of Delph is beautiful and the museum is amazing, better artefacts than the Acropolis museum, in my opinion. The only down side is the cost drinks at the obligatory stop off. And the whole trip feels rushed. No time to sit and meditate at the ancient site of Delphi and no time to study and contemplate the artefacts in the museum. For that reason I would recommend a longer trip and overnight stay. The local village is idyllic.
Awesome tour and tour guide -Kostas. Made a good overview of the main historical events that shaped classical era Athens and peppered it with some mythological stories to set the scene for what was expecting us at Delphi. One of the best guides we had in over 11 European countries that we visited so far. Also, hats off to Lukas, the driver, who made us feel really safe on the narrow and slopey roads leading to Delphi.
We enjoyed the commentary provided by Marianna Tsigardou - she expressed some very interesting philosophical points and put into perspective our new understandings of Greek culture and beliefs. We were comfortable in our bus, a good driver, we think.
