What people are saying about Apostolic Palace

the contemporary art is overlooked at the Vatican Museum

I loved my visit to the Vatican museum. I thought it as going to be all about the Renaissance, and it was, but it was much more. The teasing way they presented contemporary art on the last leg of the trek through history and archaeology to the Sistine Chapel was a surprise. The signs kept saying Capella Sistina but there was hall after hall of 20th and 21st-century art that was surprising and beautiful. There was art from many of the greats and it was inspiring to see them take on traditional religious subjects in new and exciting ways. Of course, when you enter the Sistine everything else in your life seems small and insignificant, including the art you've just been looking at for half an hour or more. But when I looked back I was impressed because this is the art I can and do myself.

Good idea to beat the ticket queue which was very long!

We visited on a very hot day so skipping the long ticket queue was a big bonus. The museums are very interesting but also very busy. We took a picnic and plenty of water and ate outside in the gardens. There are some long galleries with amazing ceilings but as we approached the Sistene Chapel the crowd got very congested. The Chapel ceiling is a wonder to behold. Overall An enjoyable visit.

Well worth it buy buy skip the queue tickets

We bought skip the queue tickets and rented audio phones which were very good once we got the hang of them. 2hrs spent looking at everything but you could spend longer. You have to see to believe as the ceilings are magnificent and the statues and tapestries are totally amazing. The wealth is astounding. Don't listen to the ticket touts if you bought your tickets online they will try to get you to buy off of them. They are everywhere are so annoying. Make your way to the ticket office and head straight in.

... a must visit in Rome but lot's of people around

Very nice museum. The ticket with "skip the line" worked very well. I had a ticket without guide - the best idea ever! The audio guide (pick it up inside of the museum without pre-booking) can be rented for €8. Better bring some good headphones with you. Excellent quality and very detailed description (better than any guide could do in my opinion). I did 2 rounds. 1st: Go in the "Sistine chapel" LHS out (there are more rooms and you only see them without a guided tours) 2nd round: Go at the "Sistine chapel" RHS out to the Saint Pauls cathedral. There is a sign "guided groups only" but it does not matter - you can go through alone as well. Have fun!

Easy to find correct entrance with lots of assistance available.

We arrived in St Peter's Square about 30 minutes before our allotted time. There were lots of Vatican guides in the vicinity. As soon as they saw our ticket, they told us it would be about a 10 minute walk to the official 'fast track' entrance gate. There was no queue, so we walked straight to the security bag check & then through the official ticket barrier. Once in, we were delighted by the amazing artefacts & exhibitions included in our entrance fee. Obviously, it was fairly crowded, but the crowds were manageable & in no way detracted from our enjoyment of the whole experience.
