Top 5 things to see and do from Alice Springs

Are you making a stop in Alice Springs? Lucky you - this is one of the most remote parts of Australia, and all the better for it. You get to experience boundless nature and culture as you've most likely never seen it before. What are the essentials?

Ayers Rock

This huge, sacred rock is actually located 280 miles away from Alice Springs - but it's the nearest city. Make a day of it and see if you notice the rock's fabled color change.

Reptile Center

Now's your chance to get up close and personal with some snakes and lizards! Don't worry - there'll always be an expert supervising you.

Hot Air Balloon Ride

The best way to experience such vast desert? From the air, of course. And what better accompaniment than a glass of bubbly, compliments of your tour organizer?

School of the Air

Due to its remote location, Alice Springs is renowned for its School of the Air, making education accessible to farming and Aboriginal communities.

Palm Valley Safari

Ride in a jeep and follow the horizon from Alice Springs to Hermannsburg, an Aboriginal community. Your destination is Finke Gorge National Park and its Palm Valley.

Planning Your Alice Springs Visit

Are there any particular rules for wildlife areas?

Pets are generally not allowed. Please also exercise common sense and respect for the environment and community - don't drop litter!

What should I wear?

Temperatures in this part of the world can soar to 100 degrees and bushfires are not uncommon in the summer (December, January, February). Therefore, you should take the heat seriously - wear cool cotton, lather up plenty of sunscreen, bring a hat, and stay hydrated.

What people are saying about Alice Springs

The day was very fast paced, to no avail. It felt pressured and hurried in the morning, yet, despite a breakdown and a deviation, we were back in Alice by 5.00 pm for first drop off. I would not advise it as a tour, due to hurried nature of guide, which removed the enjoyment and presence of the walk and of being in and seeing Hermannsburg and the palm valley. A little more time to breathe and enjoy the surrounding would have added enormous value to the day, given we were back in Alice with plenty of time to spare. I will not recommend it to fellow travelers, despite the safety and driving skills of the driver - guide.

Fantastic, everything was perfect ;) the Crew were amazing, they really love their job, and their entusiasme was remarkabel, the flight was awesome, and afterwards when we helped with packing Down the balloon was funny and a good (and dirty) experience ;) after that we had a “party” with the Crew with champagne and snacks. I Can highly recommend this trip. We where on the 60 min flight.

A very full afternoon. Each tour was ideal for travellers. From School of the Air, to RFDS, to Old Telegraph Station, to Reptile outing, no stone was left unturned. The learnings and photos are one off. Informative, organised, kind and well timed.
