What people are saying about Alcantara River
Brilliant tour, would highly recommend it. Our guide - Giuseppe - was really excellent. Very knowledgeable about Mount Etna as well as the history of the towns and villages we passed through. His passion for the area really showed and he made the day hugely enjoyable for us. Our favourite parts were the “technical breaks” Giuseppe brought us on - a real taste of local culture! Would recommend getting the hiking jackets & boots - very windy and slippy on Mount Etna on the day we did the tour. We got to see 5 of the 6 craters and do some lava surfing - would definitely recommend! The canyon was lovely and worth a visit - water was freezing though! Overall a great day and tour, would definitely recommend it.
It was an amazing experience to climb the craters of Etna followed by a wine tasting/lunch and visiting the Alcantara river with its waterfalls. Our guide Paolo was super friendly and with a lot of knowledge. He knew a lot about geology and the area as he is local. After the crater climbs we visited a cave created by the vulcano. Our excuraion continued with a wine tasting and lunch all from local produce with huge italian portions and lot of flavour. After the lunch we continued our tour to the Alcantara river which was amazing. We swam in a little pool and did some hiking. I titally recommend this one day tour we had a blast. Grazie Paolo!
The tour guide picked everyone up nearby their hotels in the morning. The streets around Taormina are quite narrow, but the guide, Roberto, drove very well. Roberto explained us the history of Etna and was very open for random questions the group had. He made the hiking very easy by stopping every now and then to give us a breather and to explain more about Etna and the lava stones. He was also very funny. We enjoyed that a lot. The day was full of laughter and good moods. Thank you Roberto for an amazing experience. We loved the day with you as our guide. Everyone should get you as their guide for Etna.
We had a really good time on this excursion. Our guide Giovanni was very pleasant and knowledgeable and he shared lot of information about the mountain, environment, volcanic activity, plants, etc. You can really see that he enjoys what he does :) The trail was full of cool elements (craters, viewpoints, lava exit points, etc.). Lunch afterwards was also very nice and we drank a pretty tasty wine ;) In the end, Alcantra Gorges were wonderful :)) All in all, I highly recommend this classic tour.
There's not much to say. We got completely equipped from the super team, all you need to bring is swimming clothes, a towel and something to drink after the tour. The tour is about 3 hours trough the river and the lovely nature. It includes several jumps (about 8-9 meters) and lots of slides between the stones. If you don't want to jump there's always a way round. Would do it immediately again, a great experience!
