Top attractions in Albufeira
Albufeira is renowned as a hub of seaside tourism, and for good reason. Beyond the immaculate beaches and historic points of interest, inland Portugal offers gorgeous rural scenery, ripe for hikes and excursions. Here are some of the highlights!
One of southern Portugal's leading tourist attractions couples a superb aquarium (which includes birds too) with daily sea lion and dolphin shows. You can even swim with the latter!
Known as Fisherman's Beach for its former harbor economy, this is Albufeira's best recreational beach. Not in the mood for sunbathing? Try parasailing or the local seafood instead!
Visit this 12th-century Moorish castle for great views over the Quarteira River, with a Roman bridge that's still in use! Don't miss the sleepy village of Paderne along the way.
Another sightseeing excursion. This one features the fascinating remnants of an ancient Roman villa that dates back to when Caeser Augustus ruled the Algarve!
Considered to be one of Europe's most beautiful beaches, the clean sands and startling rock formations of Praia da Marinha are definitely worth the short trip from Albufeira.
A jaunt northwest of Albufeira lies Pêra – home to this celebration of spectacular sand sculpting. It's a must-see, and generously runs from March to October!
If seeing dolphins at Zoomarine isn't quite satisfying, why not board a boat tour to spy these majestic creatures in the wild? You can even explore the caves while you're at it!
Albufeira is famed for being a year-round destination. Unfortunately, the recession has forced many businesses to start closing off-season (November to March). Although the holiday season is probably the best time to visit, you might also want to take advantage of the city's winter prices! The weather will still be pleasant, if possibly too brisk for swimwear!
Albufeira is just 40 km from Faro Airport. From there it can be easily reached by regional train, bus, or car/taxi. Note that Albufeira train station is on the outskirts of the city, so you'll need to complete your journey to the center by taxi. If arriving at Lisbon Airport, make your way to Gare do Oriente and catch a train from there.

- Albufeira is lovely all year round. Summers are hot, but not scorching, with a 70°F average, and winter temperatures don't dip below 50°F. From June to August Albufeira will be at its most festive, so the beach-happy in particular are recommended to go at this time!

What people are saying about Albufeira
We went on this tour with a group of 4 & one additional girl joined our van. We were picked up at 230, however the wine drinking/ Winery tour didn’t start until 430. We did get to have some wonderful information passed to us about the history of Portugal and we were able to see the last standing castle. Our guide Juao was great, very engaging and funny! We stopped off at the castle & were able to explore for an hour. From there we made our way to the winery. We stopped off at PAXA wines, the tasting room in the Winery was beautiful, and the host, Nidia was wonderful. The wine was very delicious of course! Overall it was a great day out. Again, the Portuguese hospitality was amazing! Juao dropped us off at our dinner reservation instead of our original pick up spot & gave us good recommendations for restaurants. Personally I wish we had booked the longer tour to go to several wineries. But overall was a great day out!
It was a fantastic trip! We got to see the dolphins and all the beautiful caves. Benagil was beyond beautiful. The only thing I was slightly disappointed about is that we didn’t get to stop anywhere because we were told that we would take a small break at one of the beaches along the algarve near the caves. Also, we only stayed at the benagil cave for a short time, would’ve been amazing if it was for longer. Despite that, wonderful trip!
Dega (hope that is spelt correctly) was an awesome guide. Super friendly and with great knowledge and information. We had a great time cruising through the mountains. Lots of fun and highly recommend. A different experience than sitting in the beach. Exposed to olive trees, almond trees and cork trees. Simply amazing!
This was my first time parasailing and my nerves were starting to kick in before we took off but once we lifted off up into the air the experience was like no other and also thanks to an amazing team, I would definitely recommend this to anyone, its absolutely fantastic and well worth the money :-) thank you guys
Bernardo - the guide was phenomenal. Very friendly, informative and funny. Seems like he loves what he does and enjoys showing people the beauty of the area. The views, the ocean and experience are one of a kind. You will feel incredibly grounded, connected, peaceful and blissfully AF. I sure did!
