Full description
Experience the best of Akoroa's food and wildlife on this all-encompassing shore excursion. After being picked up from the Akaroa Wharf, travel through the township and inner bays of Akaroa Harbour before arriving at a local cheese factory in Barry’s Bay, the only commercially operating cheese factory in the region. Enjoy a sample of some of the region's best cheeses before continuing to your next stop.

Afterwards, travel along the old volcanic crater rim to admire magnificent panoramic views of the harbor and peninsula. Following a great photo opportunity, travel to a nearby local sheep farm. Here, watch the sheepdog round up the sheep and bring them into the sheep pens where you can pet and photograph the animals. Learn more about the sheep breeds and wool from the farmer before watching him shear a sheep in the woolshed.

Finish your visit with afternoon tea provided by the farmer’s wife in their homestead, before getting dropped off back at Akaroa Wharf in time for your ship's departure.

The tour bus was late, so we lost almost 25 minutes from the start. Our tour guide was not very enthusiastic and she did not have much to say, and seemed bored with what she was doing. I realize it was an afternoon tour and maybe she was tired of going the information. At the sheep farm, I expected to see more of what the sheep dogs do. The best part of the tour was the tea at the sheep farmer's home.
