Private Guided Tour of Ancient Olympia

2. Private Guided Tour of Ancient Olympia

In 776 BC there was already an idea for peace at Olympia sanctuary. Initially the festival started as a local event that has become Panhellenic (all Greeks) in the next centuries. The culmination was reached in the Greek classical period of 5 century B.C. The world of the gods. of the heroes. of myths, and the sacrificial symposia formed the ethos of the ancient Greeks and defined them as a unique moment in the history of humanity. The institution contributed decisively to the unity of the Greeks, equality,  peace, humanism and good competition which are among the characteristics of this period.  The harmony of body and mind evolved through sport and philosphy. The harmony is reflected in the statues of the gods and the myths.  This is a private guided walking tour of almost 2.5 hours in the Ancient Olympia. This tour was amazing. It far exceeded expectations and was the perfect way to see major sites in Greece. Our tour guide Effie and bus driver George were phenomenal. We didn't have to worry about a thing during the tour and even when Delphi was closed due to protests they came up with a great alternate tour. Cannot recommend highly enough. We read a few reviews prior to booking the recommended to upgrade hotels, we did and all the hotels were amazing.

A good way to tour the great archaeological sites, inaccessible by public transport, and with an extraordinary guide and driver! The sites are magnificent, and with the explanations you can easily dive into the past, but also the present of Greece. The trips are well organized, with regular breaks, and the accommodation well chosen.

Our driver George exceeded our expectations and truly went above and beyond to make the trip a memorable experience. The entire ride to Olympia he told us historic facts about the surrounding areas and we even got to make stops along the way. It was very comfortable, personalized, and a lot of fun. 10/10 recommend!

Fantastic tour with Antonia. She was very engaged, passionate about history and made the tour very interesting for the kids.

This was a great value for your money. Definitely worth it. The food at the hotels and stops wasn’t that great though.
