What people are saying about El Calafate
This is a MUST DO while in El Calafate, unless you go in a cruise on Antarctica. It was an experience to remember for many years to come. We've been lucky to be a sunny day and the glacier was discovering itself for us. But you should be prepared for everything: sun, wind, rain and/or snow. Good walking shoes (not city shoes, the crampons will not stay on them), water proof and wind protection jackets and many layers as the weather changes. Sun cream is required before you start on the glacier and sun glasses, gloves and hat. Ice crampons will be provided. This is not a difficult activity, but it is not a flat walk. The guide will make many stops in the way, will explain bout the place, the glacier, answer questions and allocate time for pictures. There were 2 guides -depends on how large the group is. One lead and one that helped us on more difficult places. Backpacks were left at the shelters. Whisky and chocolates provided at the end of the tour. Professional guides.
Really cool way to get to see the glacier. There was a limit where we couldn't get as close to the glacier in our kayaks as it looks like you can in some of the photos (but this may have just been the time of year we were there) but it was a nice and serene experience since there aren't a lot of other people on the water and you get to see the glacier from new angles. I would definitely recommend this!
Beautiful tour right in the hills outside of El Calafate. Beautiful views of Lago Argentina and all the mountains behind it. The guide is very interesting. She knew everything about agriculture and history.
This tour was amazing but the balconies to view the glacier was also excellent. Just be aware that only one operator does the glacier walk no matter whom you book with.
Definitely do it. Smooth logistics, once in a lifetime opportunity to walk on top of a glacier. Beautiful and fun. Trust in the crampons!!
