Full description
After an early departure from Eilat and crossing into Jordan, you will travel 2-3 hours along the scenic mountain route, to Petra, one of the Seven Wonders of the World. After passing the Obelisks in front of the cave, you will enter the narrow, 1,200 meter long canyon, the Siq, where you have the option to ride for the first few hundred meters. As you walk through the gorge with the towering red stone on either side, you can marvel at the incredible sites carved into the red mountain. The magnificent exterior of the treasury with its Corinthian columns is particularly well-preserved as it is deeply carved into the rock and protected by overhanging rock. To give you an idea of the height, the funeral urn alone, tucked away up in the heart of the exterior is eleven feet high.  The monumental building known as Ad Deir, is over forty meters high, its columns reaching more than two stories. At the Roman theater, you can all but wonder who filled the seats. Marvel at the sacrificial altar and the numerous tombs, each uniquely designed. After a late lunch, you will cross back to Eilat.

Good way to visit Petra from Eilat

We were picked up at a hotel at 7 o'clock, apparently our bed & breakfast was not possible. As a result, we had some parking costs for the whole day, but that was not too bad in the end. From the hotel we were taken to a gas station where we had to wait an hour for all other people to be picked up. We thought that was a shame about the time. At the border we were helped by the tour guide Mohammed to make the crossing to Jordan. All in all it still took at least an hour, but he couldn't do anything about it. In Petra we thought the tour was a bit too slow for us, but after consultation we agreed to go our own way there. As a result, we can see and do a lot. We were back at the restaurant at the agreed time for lunch (it wasn't until 4, so be sure to bring some food!) We thought the lunch was reasonable. The driver was driving very fast. All in all, we found the tour expensive, but also a lot of fun.

We lost lot of time!

We left our hotel at 7 o'clock am. and we were at the border 5 km from Eilat at 9.30! After it we left the border at 11.30, and we arrived to Petra at 2 pm. (2 hours drive). 7 persons had no seat in the bus, in the coach there was no guide... Petra was wonderfull, but the program offered Akaba bus sight seeing, Wadi rum (optional?) or not. I can suggest to everybody to spend two days in Petra, and accept to spend 6 hours with preparation only. Otherwise Petra was phantastic, real great plce as 7th wonder of the new world wonder. So we were happy tobe there, the late lunch at 5 pm. Was good.
