Naxos Island: Highlight Bus Tour with Swim Stop at Apollonas

1. Naxos Island: Highlight Bus Tour with Swim Stop at Apollonas

Start with pickup from a variety of locations on Naxos and first travel to the green valley of Gyroula. While there, visit the marble temple of the Goddess Demeter, which is one of the most important ancient monuments on the island. Continue to Chalki village, an ancient commercial center and a place of beautiful Venetian architecture. You can also take an optional visit to a local "kitron" distillery and learn about liquor production, with tastings also included. Next, explore the village of Apiranthos located at the foot of Fanari mountain. Admire the beautiful views of Venetian Towers, marbled alleys, cozy tavernas, verandas, and traditional tiny shops with local products. Take a short stroll through the village and hear about its history and traditions. Leaving Apiranthos behind, drive past Koronos village and the famous emery mines, before arriving at Apollonas. See the ancient marble quarries where you can admire an unfinished marble Kouros Statue of 11 meters which has been standing in the same spot for more than 2500 years. Afterward, enjoy some free time at the picturesque fishing village to swim or enjoy a meal at your own expense. Drive along the west coast, one of the most beautiful routes on the island with an amazing view of the ocean. Reach the village of Eggares and take a guided tour of the small olive press museum. Small-Group Village Life Tour with Lunch at a Shepherd's Hut

2. Small-Group Village Life Tour with Lunch at a Shepherd's Hut

You will start your day with a visit to a serene, unspoiled village and gather at the "kafeneio" (-traditional village cafe), exactly as the locals do. You will sit together with the owner as old friends, exchange life experiences and learn about the great significance of the “kafeneio” in the village’s life while enjoying a typical Greek morning treat of coffee and spoon-sweet. Following the road towards the heart of the mainland, you will pass through Potamia valley and Tragea before you reach the tiny village of Damalas. Meet a third generation potter, who will talk to you about his work and make a short demonstration on his potter mill for you. Finish your day at a traditional “mitato”-meaning a local shepherd’s hut. You will walk by its gardens, smell local herbs and of course interact with lovely farm animals. The day will end with everybody around the family table, enjoying a meal made of fresh farm products along with house wine and exchanging stories with your new friends. A tour dedicated to introduce the “real” Naxos and show how life and tradition goes on besides tourism. Ideal for all ages!

Naxos: Aegean Sea & Lush Lowlands Private Guided E-Bike Tour

4. Naxos: Aegean Sea & Lush Lowlands Private Guided E-Bike Tour

What has the Aegean sea got to do with lush lowlands? They blend perfectly in this tour. Plains of olive tress, canes and citrus fruits next to the Aegean sea constitute the natural scenery of this tour. Several stops, information flood of archaeological and agricultural interest and then.. the infinite blue! The beauty of Melanes valley will get you in the right mood before getting to know the two wonders of ancient sculpture lying imposingly – the famous Kouros statues. Eggares citrus valley is next, about which the nine times for Nobel prize nominated, great Greek writer Nikos Kazantzakis, wrote : “If paradise was on earth, it would be here”. The hospitality of Eggares Olive Press museum was more likely the kind of hospitality that hugged him, to speak these words. Let the curators of the museum treat you the same way, in a full tour. Our friend Giannis will accommodate you next, in his farm with his own produced cheese, vegies, wine and/or raki. His eyes and smile speak English, although his mouth doesn’t. Do not eat or drink too much as Ammitis beach is waiting, after a 10 minutes ride. Hammocks, lunch and infinite blue lie ahead. A relaxing ride throughout the citrus plain of Eggares and Galini villages and right next to the ocean later, will be your last taste of the tour.

Fantastic! Extremely reasonably priced and such a wide varied agenda put into 1 day. For my two kids who are both in their early 20’s & me, we were perfectly fine with seeing as much as we could. We loved all of the stops except as other reviews have stated, the Kitron distillery. We were informed we would have a tour and tasting. The woman in charge was very dismissive and rude. We waited for a tour which we didn’t get, then requested tastings as they weren’t forthcoming, only to begrudgingly given 1 each. She 100% lost her company a large sale. Regardless, the tour… the bus was clean and comfortable, the driver friendly. Our guide was very knowledgeable, organized and passionate about his country. He kept the timetable perfectly. He kindly shared some of his poetry and others’ quotes about Greece which were poignant, lovely & captured exactly what we were observing. This tour would not be for small children or people who’d have trouble w heat or short climbs. Highly recommended!!!!

Very nice tour of the island with some highlights. For us it could have been more time in some places and other stops were rather uninteresting, but that's a matter of taste. Due to the different focal points, everyone got their money's worth, because the audience is also very diverse. The guide was great and has incredible knowledge, especially his knowledge of Greek mythology is very extensive and was very well received by us (one with a degree in history and a doctoral student in art history). Those who tend to get motion sickness should pack something against the nausea, because there are many switchbacks on the route. It was the perfect tour to get an overview of the island, next time we will probably drive to our highlights ourselves.

All in all an amazing experience! Clear communication regarding our pickup, modern and comfortable bus, very friendly driver and guide, everything on time as planned. Our stops were very interesting and the landscapes beautiful! We loved the generous samplings at the olive museum and the long stop at the fishing village. Perhaps we would like some more time in Chalki but without excluding another stop. 100% value for money

It was a pleasant journey through the beautiful Naxos island. The driver was safe and responsible and the tour guide was very well organised and professional. Unfortunately, we could not swim that day because of the rough and windy weather. But it was an interesting and good trip and experience.

The tour was complete and informative. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and passionate (one can tell he loves the island). Good pace, great stops and very comfortable journey.
