Full description

Head further afield from Edinburgh city and hike in the magnificent Scottish Highlands. Search for the Loch Ness monster and admire the remote moorland and dramatic mountainous landscape on this full-day excursion. Travel towards Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park where there’s a strong possibility to see some adorable ginger Highland cows that graze on these pastures. Continue north to the wonderful setting of Rannoch Moor, one of the most remote and wild locations in Scotland and also recently featured in the Netflix movie, "Outlaw King" among many other TV shows and films. Lay your eyes on the beautiful and dramatic Glencoe. Discover the dark and not so peaceful history significant in shaping Scotland and the world today. Learn about the tragic MacDonalds of Glencoe who once called this place home. Marvel at the ever-changing landscape, from green woodlands to rugged hills, long-shaped lochs and deep glens filled with mystery and intrigue. Hear a wealth of stories, myths and legends from your guide. Travel through Ballachulish, Onich, Fort William and then onto the banks of Loch Ness itself. Arrive at the picturesque Loch Ness and have the freedom to get out and enjoy a cruise on the water. Search for 'Nessie' the Loch Ness monster, undoubtedly a bucket list item for many visitors in Scotland. Or choose to sit back and relax at the water's edge and take in the panoramic views.

From here, travel east over towards the Cairngorms National Park where your guide will take you on a short hike in the unforgettable Highlands. Next, head further south through Blair Athol, Pitlochry, and Dunkeld where you can revel in the beauty of waterfalls and crashing rivers.

While on the usual Highlands tours you are usually just carted back and forth to Loch Ness, on this tour there were six of us in a minibus. Our guide Derrek from Scotland's Wild stopped at several national parks, we did small hikes and we learned a lot about the landscape, people and history. We were on the road for a total of 12 hours, each of which was worth it.

We had an incredible day with the best tour guide ever, Derek! The trip was planned perfectly, a great mix of different locations, including some walks to look at the stunning landscape with the best view and which was great when sitting for a long time in the car. All places we went to were magical and they became even more special when Derek told us all the background about them. You can really feel that he loves his job and that he has a very warm soul which makes the whole trip unforgettable. Every minute of the 12 hour trip was worth it and we were surprised over and over again how stunning Scotlands landscape is. It was not a hop on hop off tour but a much more personal adjusted and divers trip with great impressions and a caring guide with tremendous historical knowledge and great humor!

It was an amazing and unforgettable experience. I recommend this tour to anyone who wants to see as much as possible of the Highlands in a short time (+- 1 day) and who also like to hike. Our guide, Dereck, was very sympathetic and knows the Highlands like the back of his hand. He always managed to captivate us with interesting facts and explanations. Overall, it was a brilliant tour!
