Highlights
  • See the Harry Potter Train cross the bridge at Glenfinnan
  • Soak up the atmosphere in historic Glencoe
  • Spend some time at the picturesque seaside village of Mallaig
Full description

Depart Edinburgh and travel northwest, stopping for a coffee and refreshments at a small highland village. Traveling onwards, reach Glencoe, known to many as the location for the Massacre of the MacDonald clan in 1692. Take photos of this beautiful area whilst you learn about its turbulent past. After Glencoe, travel further north to Fort William. Stop for refreshments and perhaps a bite to eat before journeying down the Road to the Isles. Learn about the history of the area as you approach Mallaig, where you will spend time enjoying lunch and its sea views. From Mallaig, travel eastwards to the main attraction, Glenfinnan. Arrive right on time to see the Jacobite Steam Train (also known as the Hogwarts Express in the Harry Potter Films) cross the bridge.

Not only will you enjoy this iconic view, but the site is also known as the setting for many Harry Potter scenes, including Loch Shiel. From Glenfinnan, travel southwards, stopping for refreshments at the small village of Pitlochry before returning to Edinburgh, where your tour ends.

Meeting point

You can find the Edinburgh departure and return point outside the green Ensign Ewart pub, at 521-523 Lawnmarket, Edinburgh, EH1 2PE. There is currently a shortage of taxis and private hire cabs in Edinburgh, which may make it harder to get to the departure point if you're thinking of using a taxi. Allow for more time to reach the departure point in the morning and look into public transport options as a backup.

Scotland is gorgeous & this tour is amazing! Our guide was Andrew T and he was a phenomenal tour guide! He was thoughtful, engaged and courteous. He was a wealth of knowledge and really took the time to explain the history, locations and fun facts along the tour. This tour was ideal for any Harry Potter fan or even movie fans! Andrew told us historical details about Scotland and all the awesome movies and movie stars of Scotland! For the Harry Potter fans you’ll see Dumbledore’s final resting place, the hill where Hagrid’s hut was, where Hermione punched Malfoy, the train the Hogwarts express was based on & the lake (Lochs) that is in front of Hogwarts! It’s an amazing way to spend 13 hours & if you get Andrew T you are bound to have a great day!!

Our guide was awesome , funny , made the history interesting to listen to. The train did not run on our day , I think strike? So he took us to some other cool stops close by and gave us great photo opportunities. Highly recommend and if you get the guide Paul who looks like Santa you will love it !

A great trip that we can only recommend to everyone! On this long day, Paul E. as guide/DJ/entertainment icon not only offered us a lot of interesting information about the history of Scotland, its inhabitants and the surrounding area, but also funny anecdotes including personal singing performances, so that the bus ride never got boring - of course always with a suitable one Music for the visual impressions. Thanks to his super friendly, helpful (bags and pills for us travel sick!) and humorous nature, we experienced the Highlands as a fantastic adventure. Our bus driver Martin S. brought us safely and relaxed to the individual destinations. At the stops we always had enough time for photos and breaks. The only drawback for us: we admired the viaduct and the train from a really far away tourist location - very small on photos and only with luck you can find a place among all the people for a good picture. Nevertheless an unforgettable day, thank you!!!
