Dubrovnik: Full-Day Sea Kayak Tour to Elaphite Islands

5. Dubrovnik: Full-Day Sea Kayak Tour to Elaphite Islands

Starting the day with a panoramic ferry ride from Dubrovnik’s Gruz Harbor in the morning, you will arrive on the island of Lopud. After a safety talk and kayaking instructions, you will set off across the channel for the island of Sipan. Heading south west, you will first paddle to a natural stone arch which will provide a perfect photo opportunity. Under this archway, you can see the Adriatic sea open up in all of its glory. Next, you will regroup and paddle along the coast to the hidden Green Grotto. You will then tie up your kayaks and get ready for a wonderful morning of swimming and cliff jumping. But first, you’ll grab snorkels and masks and swim down through the cave’s opening. Very few know about this cave, even the locals, and inside there is plenty of room for swimming and even standing. This large and safe cave opens up to reveal an ethereal green light caused by the sun’s reflection off the sandy bottom. After, the group will swim in the deep cove outside the grotto’s entrance and try some cliff jumping. Following this you will continue on to the delightful fishing village of Sudurad, on Sipan, for a lunch of local delicacies. Following lunch, you will paddle back toward Lopud. Before eventually calling it a day, you will stop at the island of Ruda, our third island of the day, to explore and kayak into another cave. Guests will be back on Lopud in time for a walk and for the evening ferry back to Dubrovnik.

Kayak and Bike Tour in the Elaphite Islands From Dubrovnik

6. Kayak and Bike Tour in the Elaphite Islands From Dubrovnik

The day starts in Dubrovnik’s main port Gruž in the morning. From there you’ll ferry to the island of Lopud. After spending time discussing kayakng technique and safety, you will launch toward the island of Ruda and then paddle to Sipan and its harbor town of Suđurad. As the highlights mention, midway through you trade your paddles for pedals and explore Sipan island, if not the most popular, then the most beautiful one in the Elaphite Archipelago. A traditional fishing island, with just two villages, one road and a bus line (yes, there is a bus connecting the two) although they are only 5km (3miles) apart. Before hopping on the saddle, you will discuss equipment and routes, which are customizable to cater to different physical abilities and bike across the middle part of the island which is mostly flat with old olive growths, vineyards, stone villas and wild fig trees (a perfect dessert for late August, as they can be picked freely while biking past them). One special stop that you will make is at St. Spirit fort-church, built in the 14th Century as a defense against Turks. You can climb up the steps onto a flat roof and see the whole of Sipan island from there. In the village of Sipanska Luka on the island’s north end, you will stop for a delicious lunch of local delicacies at one of the region’s best kept restaurant secrets. After dessert, you relax with a swim in the Adriatic before heading back the way you came. The trip ends that evening with ferry ride back to Dubrovnik.
