Full description
Explore the Montenegrin coast on a day trip from Dubrovnik. Discover Our Lady of the Rocks island with its church & museum. Visit the magnificent Old Towns of Kotor, Perast and Budva. Set out on a 3-hour drive from Dubrovnik to reach Perast. From the meeting of mainland and bay, the dialogue of island and wave, this sea-faring town has derived its unique identity. See how an urban structure has arisen in the town as demonstrated by the number of public buildings, especially along the waterfront. From Perast, take a boat ride to Our Lady of the Rocks, an islet created by bulwark of rocks. Legend has it that the island was made by local seamen who kept an oath after finding the icon of Madonna and the Child on the rock in the sea. Upon every return from a successful voyage, they laid a rock. Over time, the island gradually emerged from the sea. The custom of throwing rocks into the sea is alive to date. Every year on the sunset of July 22, an event called "Fašinada" takes place, when residents take their boats and throw rocks, widening the surface of the island. See the island's Roman Catholic Church from the 17th century. Learn about the history of Perast at the adjacent museum. Visit the area with gifts that were mostly donated by sailors who lived through storms and battles at the open sea. As you return from the island, visit the main square in the middle of Perast with the church of St. Nicola’s and its impressive 55-meter-high belfry. Enjoy a breakfast break next to the sea before hopping on the bus to head to Budva. Admire Budva's beautiful Old Town, vivid atmosphere, bars, nightclubs, palm trees, and beautiful beaches consisting primarily of pebbles and sand. Budva Old Town lies on a small peninsula surrounded by the sea and represents a treasure chest of culture and heritage. Find Greek and Roman traces, medieval influences, and a mix of Byzantine and Baroque styles. Walk through narrow streets and squares to see monuments that signify Budva’s religious aspect. See the church of Holy Trinity, churches of St. John, St. Sava’s and Our Lady "In Punta" (Santa Maria in Punta). After a 45-minute walking tour, continue to Kotor. Hidden beneath the Mountain of Lovćen, in the heart of Boka Bay, this jewel of the Adriatic is unmatched in its beauty. Witness the assimilation of different cultural influences that are visible all over Kotor. Enjoy a walking tour of Budva and uncover all the secrets lying around its streets. After a stroll through the Old Town, take a lunch break to reenergize yourself before heading back to Dubrovnik.
