More fun than a walking tour, classier than a pub crawl. That's the simple idea behind Drinking History Tours, a fun, unique and social way for Melbournians, new Melbournians, travellers and groups alike to undercover the secrets behind this magnificent city. We combine the best of both worlds; the history, culture and insight of a walking tour, with the fun and socialisation of a bar tour. Sites: We’ll explore the eastern side of the Melbourne CBD, home to some of our most famous and interesting laneways. This is the side of Melbourne most tourists (and even some locals!) never see. Bars: We’ll stop for drinks at three of Melbourne’s best bars, plus pass by a dozen or so more for you to jot down and visit another time. We spend about 30-45 minutes in each bar so you’re not feeling rushed. A shared plates menu – think min-parmas, sliders, etc – will also be served at our dinner location. History: We’ll talk about our earliest founders, the cause of Melbourne love affair – and later fall out – with drinking, the rise of street art, a tragic case of miscarried justice, the 1851 gold rush (and how it helped us escape the yoke the New South Wales), secret men’s clubs (sssshhh), and much more.
