Godfrey picked us up at our stay in Woodstock and then we drove to Langa with the rest of the group, while he explained us a bit of the townships history. Once arrived we visited a local kindergarden with very cute kids. Our walking tour guide, Simo, was very knowledgeable and approachable. He took us to the house he grew up in, where we had the chance to talk to some locals. Right next to the complex was a small market where we could buy some cool locally handmade art. We then continued walking through Langa and saw a few very different parts of the township. The whole time Simo explained a lot about everything and we could ask questions at any moment. We walked around for some time and then were handed back to Godfrey, who drove us around Langa a little more and then quickly through Bonteheuwel, before dropping us back off. All in all it was a very cool experience, taking pictures often seemed a bit weird, plus the end seemed a bit rushed, but we enjoyed the overall tour. :D
Robben Island tour was a little rushed in the maximum security prison. Part of the problem was having mixed group of English and French speakers and the inevitable delays when the French translation took place. The initial guide on the bus was better at managing the situation than the prison guide. The Township tour was very good. The guide was knowledgeable and did his best managing a group who were intent on disobeying his advice!
This trip was fantastic. The guide was very knowledgeable, the transport was on time and well organised. The trip followed Covid guidelines. Our ferry crossing had to be rescheduled due to bad weather but the company dealt with this quickly and efficiently to ensure we were able to transfer our tickets to a different day. I would highly recommend this trip.
Robben island speaks for itself. Fascinating and emotional. Really enjoyed the township experience. It gave us a better appreciation of the interaction between the different social groups in CapeTown and SA. Our guide and driver were very friendly and well informed. Excellent tour
Friendly, knowledgeable local guides who gave us an authentic experience. Brought the long term effects of apartheid sharply into focus for me. I hope and pray for a better multi cultural future for Capetown and South Africa
