Full description
Your professional tour guide will pick you from your accommodation in Cusco between 4:00AM and 4:30AM. After a 2-hour drive, you will arrive in Cusipata where you will stop for breakfast and buy water and snacks for the trek. Following breakfast, you'll travel one more hour to the hike starting point, at 4,850 meters. From there you will start your 3.5-kilomter trek to Rainbow Mountain over both flat and uphill terrain. During your hike you will enjoy amazing views and encounters with wild alpacas, llamas, and vicuñas. Once you reach the top at 5,010 meters, you can make use of some free time to take a break, and if the weather is good, you will be able to enjoy views over Rainbow Mountain. You will then have the option to explore the Red Valley lookout, before beginning the easy part of your trek. You'll go downhill to the starting spot for another hour, where you will take transportation back to Cusipata where a local lunch will be waiting for you. Once you finish your buffet lunch you will travel back to Cusco, where you will arrive between 4:00PM and 5:00PM to Plaza de Armas.

  • If for any reason you need to rent a horse, the local partner doesn't manage these rentals and won't be involved in the process

  •  The local partner is not responsible for the change of weather conditions during your tour; choose the best day of departure based on research

It was a great tour. We were picked up on time, the meals were delicious, the guide explained everything in great detail and even took the time up on Rainbow Mountain to explain everything to us three Germans (we were obviously the only non-Peruvians) in English. Even so, he took very good care of everyone on the trip. It was an all-round successful tour that I can only recommend to everyone.

Pick up was prompt at 4am outside our hotel. We were the 1st to be picked up and was outside waiting. But as we went through the city picking up the others in our group, NONE of the others were ready or even outside waiting. It added an hour to our time. Bring a water bottle because the tour guide doesn't provide any and it's 2 hours until you stop for breakfast where there were a few bottles for sale. At one point, the driver pulled off the road without asking if anyone in the group wanted anything, the guide bought coffee, snacks and water for just himself from a street vendor from his window. I was mad because I was experiencing altitude & car sickness because they drive erratically! I actually spoke up and the guide gave me his water. That was nice. The food at the restaurant was good. They have coca leaves on the table which another person in our group helped me make tea with it after she noticed I wasn't eating. We all were on our own to hike. No help if anything went wrong.

Great tour! This hike is no joke though if you are new to the higher altitude! Horses are available to bring you near the top (for a few) but definitely a good option! I hiked up and down, and was feeling the altitude sickness, our tour guide Broley was great and helped me to feel better!
