Full description

Begin the tour at the Peninsula Resort and Spa with a short theoretical introduction and a quad driving lesson before the adventure begins. Follow a beautiful off-road cliff path along the sea and into the heights of Achlada away from traffic and in the midst of the most beautiful nature the area has to offer. Enjoy breathtaking views over Agia Pelagia until reaching Heraklion, then continue to the ancient and abruptly abandoned ghost village of Achlada. Find out more about the background of the village and the traditional Cretan way of life and share a special personal moment with the last two remaining inhabitants of the village. Stroll through this otherwise inaccessible village at leisure. From the heights of Achlada, pass in between the mountains surrounded by breathtaking nature before continuing to Fodele, a traditional Cretan village, also called the village of the oranges and birthplace of the famous painter ‘El Greco’. Explore Crete’s culture and marvel at its local handicrafts. Take some time for shopping and a visit to the museum or to the village’s orthodox churches. Sit back and enjoy a famous freshly squeezed orange juice made from the local orange trees for a more relaxing experience. Return to the hotel at 1.00 p.m., just in time for lunch, or alternatively, there is the possibility to have lunch in a local restaurant and try Greek Meze – a variety of Greek delicacies served on small plates.

When we arrived on site, we first thought - do we like it?! Everything was stressful and very little friendly. But then it got nice and we saw a lot. There were a total of 10 quads, which were always occupied by two. You always had to drive at a distance of 2m, which was a bit exhausting, because you have no freedom to drive a little differently than the convoy. In this respect we are already used to other tours. But I don't want to complain - the price was great, as was the travel time and you saw a lot. The visit to the abandoned village and the information about it were very interesting. The stop with the orange juice was ok. Could have been a little shorter. Would have preferred to drive around 15 minutes longer. For €2.5 you can buy a fresh orange juice. Worth it. He was delicious. So don't forget money! At the end of the tour you can either bring a USB stick and you will get the pictures of the tour or you can buy one from the guide.

We booked the quad safari at 6 pm so that we could see the sunset. We were well received and after completing the paperwork, we all received a helmet. This is followed by a small test to get to know the quad, everyone can drive it for a while so that you know how driving and braking go. We were a group of 10 quads and we were the last to ride. This is recommended because you are not constantly driving between 2 other quads, but on the unpaved roads you get a lot of dust to process. However, we did not find this a problem. The view is magnificent and we were guided very well. You drive in a column and you have to connect well, but this goes very smoothly. We also stopped in a village where we received a very detailed explanation from Stan, the guide. He is very good in his explanations, also speaks French, German and English very fluently. At every place we stopped, he also suggested taking pictures for everyone. We can only recommend this! Certainly do!

All in all a great thing, except that the funny guide Names Stan acts quite stressfully if not all quads drive row after row at a distance of 2m from each other. You are more focused on not hitting the person in front but not falling too far away at the same time than being able to take a look at the beautiful landscape. But basically it's worth the money and I recommend it to everyone.
