5. From Lisbon: Alentejo Coast Private Day Tour
On this full day tour discover one of Portugal's most beautiful regions: the Alentejo coast, a paradise of wild beaches and unspoilt nature. The Alentejo coast is off the beaten track of mass tourism and uncontrolled urbanism. Much of it is a protected natural area with great biodiversity.
The richness of the region lies not only in its beaches and natural beauty. You will find charming villages with narrow streets and white houses, as well as historic sites and characters. You can also enjoy the best of Portuguese gastronomy, especially fresh fish and seafood.
Leaving Lisbon, we pass through the old and beautiful town of Alcácer do Sal, with its rice fields and castle, heading towards Comporta beach. Let yourself be dazzled by the fine golden sands and turquoise waters of this famous beach, a small paradise that has become a favourite spot for celebrities, where luxury meets nature conservation.
Continue south along the extensive beaches of crystal clear waters to Sines, the historic seaside town where Vasco da Gama, the navigator who discovered India in 1458, was born. There are many typical restaurants here. They offer the best of the sea, but also the flavours of the Alentejo countryside.
From the beach of São Torpes to the charming village of Porto Covo, enjoy one of the most beautiful roads in Portugal and be sure to stop at Samoqueira beach, where you can admire magnificent rocks sculpted by the sea.
Before returning to Lisbon, we head to Vila Nova de Milfontes, another of the region's highlights, within the Southwest Alentejo and Costa Vicente Natural Park. Situated at the mouth of the River Mira, it's perfect for a summer holiday, with a huge variety of landscapes and things to do.
