Cologne: Search for Historical Traces of the Romans

2. Cologne: Search for Historical Traces of the Romans

More than 2,000 years ago the Romans founded an early settlement in the area of Cologne’s city center, which received full city rights in the middle of the first century as well as a new name: Colonia Claudia Ara Agrippinensium. The Romans built a city wall, a street network, a water supply, a sewage system, and established residential areas, businesses, temples and stately buildings. With these measures, the Romans created an urban infrastructure, which still influences Cologne's cityscape today. Even the main shopping streets align with those from 2,000 years ago. Depending on availability, you will explore the Ubiermonument and/or the excavation underneath the monastery church Groß Sankt Martin.

What people are saying about Cologne

I highly recommend this journey through time. It was an incomparable experience for my mother and me and especially the culmination - the train ride - was spectacular. We really got immersed in the Cologne of 1926 and it was very nicely done. Try it out and also with children, it's just beautiful. It would have been nice if the journey could have lasted much longer.

Very nice experience, good organization. An interesting journey through time through Cologne from 1926. Very realistically designed.

Have been there several times, it's always a great experience, especially if you take visitors with you on the trip.

Great journey through time to old Cologne. Realized with all sorts of media or narratives.

No long queues, everything very clean and very nice. Also interesting for children
