Coimbra: Mondego River Kayaking Tour

1. Coimbra: Mondego River Kayaking Tour

After meeting your tour guide in the morning, you will be transported to Penacova and provided with the kayaking equipment and some instructions. Then, set off from the Carvoeira dam on a kayaking tour with a total length of 18 km (11 miles).  You'll be kayaking through the natural Mondego river valley, surrounded by extensive forests. As you travel downriver, you will pass by the small villages of Ronqueira, Rebordosa, Louredo, Foz do Caneiro and Casal. This part of the river is full of small beaches where you can stop for a picnic or go to go for a swim. On the river beach of Palheiros, you'll find a small bar where you can buy an ice cream or a cold beer. The river usually has a light current, which makes the kayaking easy and accessible to all ages. Finish in Torres do Mondego, after 3-4 hours of kayaking and breaks along the way. Expect to arrive between 15.00 and 17.00 pm.

From Lisbon: Serra da Estrela Tour with Tasting

2. From Lisbon: Serra da Estrela Tour with Tasting

Itinerary At the appointed time, we will meet in Praça dos Restauradores, in the center of Lisbon, to then leave the capital behind us and set off towards the country's impressive peaks, rich in history and traditions. First, we will visit Covilhã, gateway to the Serra da Estrela, as well as home to the Cheese Museum, which we will visit to learn about the production process of the local dairy delicacy. Pure ecstasy for the palate! Next, we will reach the highest point of mainland Portugal, the Torre da Serra, from which we will enjoy an incredible view of the Serra da Boa Viagem and the neighboring Serra de Gredos. We will then continue to Penhas da Saúde, a beautiful mountain village that stands at an altitude of about 1,500 meters, in the middle of the Serra da Estrela. These postcard views will simply leave you breathless! If you visit in the winter months, you can even admire the magical snow-capped mountains. Along the way, we will also see a sculpture dedicated to Nossa Senhora da Boa Estrela, patron saint of shepherds, dating back to 1946. Quite surprising, don't you think? We will then begin the descent, stopping along the way in Manteigas, a town of unique beauty at about 700 meters above sea level, in the Serra da Estrela glacial valley crossed by the Zêzere River. The relaxing flow of water will accompany us on our journey, catapulting us into an atmosphere of absolute serenity. Before heading to our next destination, we will reach the "O divino" establishment to taste the Serra cheese produced there. What better way to end our tour of the resort? At the end of the visit, we will return to Lisbon, with arrival expected after approximately twelve hours of activity.

What people are saying about Coimbra District

Best experience! The tour guide was very professional and knew all the currents and speeds of different parts in the river. This was my first time kayaking on my own and I had the best help and guidance. Also the rapid parts were very easy for me, the instructions really helped a lot. I’m ready for level 2! We went there in October and the view was amazing. It was quiet so a lot of wildlife and rare bird species appeared. This was very special to see. Although we brought our own lunch there is a beach club almost at the end of the tour, they have amazing pork sandwiches you should try those during the lunchbreak. I would definitely recommend them! These experts know the river very well and guided us during the 18 km journey.

Wonderful tour, personal and flexible, international. Lots of participants (about 150 in total), there are 2 routes, one is 18 km the other 25 and costs a little more. After the tour we both had blisters on our fingers although it wasn't that strenuous thanks to the current. Because the 2nd bus was too full, we had to be at the departure point at 8:45 a.m. (text message) One of the tour guides even brought us to the hotel by car earlier (3 p.m.) because of our train departure. Value for money just perfect!!!! And such beautiful nature

Just Awesome! Very picturesque! Exhilarating and yet serene. Our guides were very patient, especially the lead who picked us up in Coimbra and drove the bus as well. Would definitely recommend to others, even first time kayakers like myself.

The team was super nice and helpful. The tour was really nice and everything was very organized. At the meeting point in Coimbra, after the bridge, there is a sign where you will be picked up and driven to the starting point.

We had an AMAZING time! The guides were patient and the trail was beautiful.
