Chiang Mai: Waterfall, Elephant Sanctuary and Bamboo Rafting

1. Chiang Mai: Waterfall, Elephant Sanctuary and Bamboo Rafting

Embark on a one-of-a-kind experience and visit an ethical rescued elephant sanctuary in the jungle outside Chiang Mai. Cool off in a waterfall, savor a traditional Thai lunch, and become a caretaker for the day as you interact, feed, and observe the gentle giants in their natural environment.  Begin with a pickup from your hotel or accommodation in downtown Chiang Mai. Take a scenic drive southwest of Chiang Mai and see local farms, hill tribe villages, and rice fields along the way.  Journey to the Mae Wang Waterfalls, where you'll relax and take a dip in the water. Arrive at the Secret Elephant Sanctuary located deep in the jungle. You'll be welcomed to the sanctuary by a guide who will lead you through the experience. Get dressed into Karen hill tribe clothing like the ones elephant caretakers wear. Next, get a briefing on Asian elephants and the background of the sanctuary. Come and meet the friendly rescued elephants and feed them bananas. Walk up the hill with elephants through the forest and watch the elephants forage for food in the wilderness. Observe elephants interacting between families in their natural environment. Head down to the river and enjoy bathing with the elephants. Walk with the elephants back to the sanatorium and embrace the memories and have time to say goodbye to these marvelous creatures. Finish off with a scenic bamboo rafting trip along the Mae Wang River before you get dropped off at your hotel in Chiang Mai.

Chiang Mai 3-Hour ATV & White-Water Rafting Adventure

3. Chiang Mai 3-Hour ATV & White-Water Rafting Adventure

Before starting your activity, a safety orientation and state-of-the-art helmets and life vests are provided. The first 3-hour ATV (all-terrain vehicle) trip is set up for beginner to intermediate-level drivers. It covers roughly 40-kilometers in distance and is a mix of road and off-road jungle terrain. It’s well-suited for those that would like to explore the local countryside and see it a different way. After the ATV, the 10-kilometer white-water rafting will begin. It's broken into 3 sections. The first section is a great warm-up where you learn skills practising with the guides and getting used to the boat. This section has one class III and is probably the most beautiful section of the river with the encroaching jungle offering lots of shade. The second section is action-packed with rapids and is probably the best white water in Thailand. Most of this section is class III and IV rapids. The third section lets up in the beginning giving you some time to relax before entering a great class III rapid, leading into a short continuous section of rapids that goes almost all the way to the take out where the camp is. Towels and shower facilities will be provided when you finish before heading home. Make sure you bring a second set of dry clothes so you can ride home comfortablly.

This tour was just beautiful. Would recommend them to everyone immediately, the animals are doing very well there and you can see how happy they are. Above all, the tour includes many activities with rafting, feeding elephants, walking through the jungle with the animals, a very good home-cooked lunch (Pad Thai) and then hiking through the forest to a waterfall. It was great and made memories that will last a lifetime.

our guide Jackie was so amazing, kind and really made sure everyone had a good time. It was honestly one of my favourite experiences of Thailand to feed the elephants, they seemed really at peace and connected to their carers. I would highly recommend this trip, the bamboo rafting was epic and seeing the waterfall too, honestly was the highlight of my time here. Huge gratitude to the organisers!

A really great day with a great tour guide (Jackie)! Bamboo rafting was a great experience, beautiful scenery. The elephants seem really comfortable. You could spend a lot of time with them. At noon we had Pad Thai and fresh fruit, then we went to a waterfall where we could swim. People have tried very hard. Thanks for the great adventure!

The elephants look healthy and happy! Rafting and swimming at the waterfall rounded off the experience perfectly! Highly recommended!
