Full description

Meet elephants on this guided day trip from Chiang Mai to the Lanna Kingdom Elephant Sanctuary, located in the middle of a lush national park. Here the elephants are able to roam freely in a large green space. Keep your clothes clean by wearing local clothes and boots. Feed and interact with rescued elephants before sitting down to a freshly cooked lunch.

Depart Chiang Mai aboard an air-conditioned van and journey into the mountains of northern Thailand to visit the ethical Lanna Kingdom Elephant Sanctuary (approximately 1-hour drive from the city center).

Upon arrival, learn about the elephant conservation program and benefit from an introductory talk, and the chance to interact with the rescued animals. Get the chance to give them a hug and discover how to prepare a healthy meal to feed them.

Go for a walk around the sanctuary with the elephants and stop to give them a mud bath to keep their body temperature down and protect them from parasites. Feed them before enjoying a homemade lunch at a restaurant inside the sanctuary.

It as a wonderful tour from the moment we were picked up. Our guide Pooh gave us all the information while still in the van which I found to be super efficient and doesn’t take away any time from when we are at the sanctuary. Pooh was full of knowledge and answered our many questions. We also met the Mahoots (elephant keepers) who were very friendly with quite a bit of sense of humor. This is a place that has ethical animal treatment. And finally, the elephants are lovely creatures! We loved feeding them, and helping them bathe (do not miss this). P.s. don’t forget to tip your guide :)

Picked up at my hotel and driven out to the Lanna Kingdom Elephant Sanctuary. It is a true sanctuary, ethical, with no riding, no hooks, no treks. Just 5 female elephants roaming the grounds, doing what they should be doing. In the half day excursion, we were given lots of time for hands-on with the elephants, feeding bananas, making food and feeding it, and bathing in a tank if you wished.

We got to spend a lot of time with the elephants, bathing them, feeding them, and playing with the big baby Lanna. Lunch was phad Thai and it was really good, but missing lime. We got to chop down banana trees to feed to them and make them banana snacks.
