    1. Chiang Mai: Full-Day Chiang Dao Caving & Jungle Kayaking

Drive high up into the Northern Thai Jungle, to the Chiang Dao Valley and to the Mae Ping river. This creek-like river winds itself through the bamboo jungle and gives an intimate view of Northern Thai wilderness.  Then, embark on a kayaking trip, where undisturbed woods, overgrown banks with fallen trees and the shade from overhanging trees provide a unique environment as you navigate the task at hand. Abundant bird life, jumping fish and mysterious sounds from the forest accompany the journey. To complete this wonderful kayaking experience, enjoy lunch at a local restaurant or riverside.  Next, tackle Chiang Dao Cave, the most prominent cave system in Northern Thailand. Spend approximately 1 hour following a local guide through the side arms with headlamps and flashlights until joining the main route into well-lit caverns. Marvel at the Buddhist shrines and see the numerous bats that ...

I liked the kayaks very much. Beautifull views, tranquile, you are pedalling by yourslef all the way (the kayaks are personal, not for pairs). Has a bit of asrenalin, but not too complex to handle. The cave was less intersting.

  • Chiang Mai Elephant Sanctuary Small Group Ethical Tour

    3. Chiang Mai Elephant Sanctuary Small Group Ethical Tour

Depart Chiang Mai and journey into the mountains of northern Thailand to visit the ethical Lanna Kingdom Elephant Sanctuary (approximately 1-hour drive from the city center). Upon arrival, learn about the elephant conservation program and benefit from an introductory talk and the chance to interact with the rescued animals. Get the chance to give them a hug and discover how to prepare a healthy meal to feed them. Go for a walk around the sanctuary with the elephants and stop to give them a mud bath to keep their body temperature down and protect them from parasites. Feed them before enjoying a homemade lunch at a restaurant inside the sanctuary.

The tour was quite nice, but we would have appreciated more contact with the elephants. It is more to see them in freedom, than interacting with them. Most of the time you prepare food for them.

Mr Kam was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. On the tour was myself, my husband and a young man traveler. Nice small group meant it was easy to ask questions. The trek was not an easy trail at times. We’re used to these types of hikes in our Rocky Mountains, so this was not a problem for us but could be problematic if mobility is an issue. We stopped at the lower temple where a monk ordination was taking place. We were then driven up to the top of Doi Suthep where there was a huge complex temple and LOTS of people- praying, giving offerings- obviously a very religious place for Buddhists. Tourism in Thailand is currently low due to COVID2019 and no Chinese tourists being allowed out of China, so this was the first time we saw so many Asians in one place. Lunch padthai was okay. We stopped at a waterfall and dipped our toes in. Water level is really low due to drought conditions. We were grateful to be driven back to our hotel even tho the description said we wouldn’t be.

I loved this day! This has been my favourite activity in Thailand they were really beautiful friendly creatures and I enjoyed every minute of the day. Really glad I chose the full day option as we got time to do a lot more than just take a couple of photos with them. Really friendly, easy going staff and mahouts, a very relaxed and enjoyable day. Lunch was delicious and we were supplied clothes and shoes to wear with the elephants (it does get a little wet and muddy) and towels to shower with after.

A wonderful experience. The animals clearly feel good, are not forced to do anything and live in harmony with their keepers. Everything promised - feeding, bathing, getting to know the animals exactly, arrival and departure as well as snack - was exactly as described. We would highly recommend the tour to anyone.
