Very much enjoyed this tour but feel it’s unfortunate that the story of history has to be downplayed as the role of slaves is emphasized. There is a way to talk about this without the labor of the slaves being the primary focus as our tour guide made it. I don’t want everything I do to be over shadowed by this current political climate.
Well worth the 20+ minute boat ride to the island. Our tour guide was excellent. She was very knowledgeable , professional , and personable. The visit to Fort Sumter was well worth the price and time. We were honored to be on the island for the flag raising which was very moving and memorable.
Nice ride over and I thought there was plenty of time to explore the site. Of course we skipped the park ranger as we knew enough of the history prior to arriving so that helped.
You can feel the history among the battlements. Such an undertaking just to build the fortress is amazing. I wish we could have spent another half hour there.
I felt as if we were on hallowed ground. It was very moving and to hear the stories that had taken place there.
