Rome: Traditional Food Tour and Wine Tasting

1. Rome: Traditional Food Tour and Wine Tasting

Eat your way through the "Eternal City" on a guided walking tour of Rome. Feel the lively atmosphere as you make your way from Campo de’ Fiori to the Trastevere with plenty of wine and street food. Meet your guide at the perfect spot for a tour focused on food and wine, and sample a selection of artisanal salamis from Italy, paired with your first taste of the country’s fine wines. Stroll through the city center as your guide divulges its strange and wonderful history. Then, nourish yourself with some local cheese at an historic shop that sells cheeses of various Italian origins. Sample another glass of carefully selected wine and try the authentic Roman specialty of baccalà fritto (fried salted cod). Continue with a tasting of 2 other typically Roman foods: pizza "by the slice" and supplì (rice balls). Visit eateries that specialize in the production of these scrumptious treats to experience new taste sensations and unforgettable aromas. Digest all your delicious food samples on a stroll to supper in one of the coziest restaurants in the Trastevere district. Known for the quality of its food, this quarter is considered to have the best restaurants in Rome. Enjoy an exquisite Roman antipasto and 2 first courses, accompanied by 2 different Italian wines of protected production and origin. Finally, try some locally made Italian ice cream in flavors typical of a famous gelateria to complete your immersive journey into Italian cuisine.

Rome Pasta-Making Class: Cook & Dine with a Local Chef

2. Rome Pasta-Making Class: Cook & Dine with a Local Chef

There’s nothing quite like a home-cooked Italian meal, especially when it has been prepared with the help of a professional chef and when you get to enjoy it on a beautiful private space in Rome. This is an experience that’s typically reserved for the real Romans, but now you can experience it too on this 3-hour activity. You’ll meet the chef in the charming Trastevere neighborhood, and you’ll be greeted with Prosecco and snacks, the perfect aperitivo to get the class started. The itinerary for the lunchtime class is slightly different. You will meet your chef at the meeting point and visit a traditional local market to shop for the ingredients for your meal. Soon it will be time to learn how to make pasta from scratch. If you want to make authentic Italian food at home, this is the number 1 skill to learn. The chef will guide you and the members of your small group through the hands-on process. Feel free to ask about anything related to food or Rome! This is your chance to learn how to cook and eat like a local. Finally, it will be time to eat. Enjoy your home-cooked pasta, along with some fine Italian wine. By the end, you won't be leaving with just a pleasant memory, but also with the know-how for making an authentic Italian dish to impress friends and family back home!

Siena & San Gimignano Day Tour & Wine Tasting from Rome

3. Siena & San Gimignano Day Tour & Wine Tasting from Rome

Visit the cities of San Gimignano and Siena on a full-day trip from Rome. Begin by crossing the beautiful hills of Chianti to arrive first in San Gimignano, a picturesque, fascinating, medieval town declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and famous for its white wine, the world-renowned Vernaccia. You will have time to wind your way through the narrow streets and admire the landscape surrounding the village. Then continue to Monteriggioni, a medieval town with well-preserved walls and towers. Here you can taste Chianti red wine along with homemade snacks. Finally, make your way to Siena and visit the historic center, also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. See Piazza del Campo, one of the most splendid examples of Gothic civil architecture in the world. View the magnificent Palazzo Pubblico with its bell tower, Torre del Mangia. Then walk to the Siena Cathedral, a church representative of Italian Romanesque-Gothic architecture. In the late afternoon, begin your return trip to Rome.

Wine and Cheese Tasting in Rome

4. Wine and Cheese Tasting in Rome

Come and join this typical Italian experience in an Enoteca. The tasting is offered in a traditional wine bar, called Enoteca, located in the 18th-century Palazzetto Giangiacomo, in the heart of Rome. It is a family run wine bar that started as a wine-shop over fifty years ago and was transformed into its present state by the third generation. The wine bar shelves are lined with carefully selected bottles produced by prestigious and new wineries. An inviting selection of regional cheeses, premium salami and hams, smoked fish and a choice of hot homemade dishes complement the wine. You will learn how to drink and taste the wine as well as distinguish the differences between colors and aromas. An introduction about the area where the wines are produced will also be given in English. Examples of some perfect parings between food and wine: Try a glass of Bellone, a forgotten antique local white grape variety paired with Rome's ricotta, a rich and flavorful by-product of pecorino romano. Or taste a glass of Frascati Superiore, the white wine associated with Rome from the vineyards visible from the periphery of the city paired with pecorino Romano, a typical salty hard cheese from Lazio. You can also enjoy a glass of Nero Buona, a traditional, antique variety of red grapes, cultivated in the hills of Cori, combined with coppiette, a flavorful and spicy roman beef jerky or porchetta, a spit-roasted pig stuffed with wild herbs. These pairings are only examples of the quality of the products, and can be changed with seasonal food.
