Wine and Cheese Tasting in Rome

8. Wine and Cheese Tasting in Rome

Come and join this typical Italian experience in an Enoteca. The tasting is offered in a traditional wine bar, called Enoteca, located in the 18th-century Palazzetto Giangiacomo, in the heart of Rome. It is a family run wine bar that started as a wine-shop over fifty years ago and was transformed into its present state by the third generation. The wine bar shelves are lined with carefully selected bottles produced by prestigious and new wineries. An inviting selection of regional cheeses, premium salami and hams, smoked fish and a choice of hot homemade dishes complement the wine. You will learn how to drink and taste the wine as well as distinguish the differences between colors and aromas. An introduction about the area where the wines are produced will also be given in English. Examples of some perfect parings between food and wine: Try a glass of Bellone, a forgotten antique local white grape variety paired with Rome's ricotta, a rich and flavorful by-product of pecorino romano. Or taste a glass of Frascati Superiore, the white wine associated with Rome from the vineyards visible from the periphery of the city paired with pecorino Romano, a typical salty hard cheese from Lazio. You can also enjoy a glass of Nero Buona, a traditional, antique variety of red grapes, cultivated in the hills of Cori, combined with coppiette, a flavorful and spicy roman beef jerky or porchetta, a spit-roasted pig stuffed with wild herbs. These pairings are only examples of the quality of the products, and can be changed with seasonal food.

This experience was fantastic from start to finish. Our tour guide Claudia was amazing she made the tour for us as her knowledge was wonderful and she was so friendly and engaging. She really did go above and beyond. The food and wine was so good and there was plenty of it. I would highly recommend this tour for anyone coming to Rome.

Massi was great! My friends and I scheduled a tour before the food tour that ran a little longer than expected. We were running late to the food tour, so I reached out to GetYourGuide who put me in touch with Massi and we were able to meet the group at the 2nd stop. The food was tasty and the gelato *chef's kiss*

We had Catia to show us around the Piazza Navona and Trastevere area with so many delicious treats and great wine. She is an amazing guide with great knowledge of the area. This is a top experience for your first days of travel to get a taste of Rome and a small tour of the surroundings.

A fantastic way to see Rome with our very funny host Mario. See the usual sites but also the hidden Rome and learn some fascinating facts that you won't find in any books. Brilliant!

The variety of the stops were great. Nice progression of the food and wonderful pairing of wines.
